Phillips to Get Start At WLB Sunday, In Place of J. Williams

Could have had Curry in here, but noooooo, Rivera felt good at linebacker. We could have had Carlos Rogers at corner, but nooooo, Rivera felt good at corner. I've just about had it with this coaching staff already. It seems like every other rookie head coach is having good success except ours. And when we miss opportunities in getting guys that will help us, it's not hard to see why we are failing.

where did we hear it was rivera's call on these guys? not saying it wasn't just curious.

WOW...

So, that 4.6 40 yard dash clearly doesn't translate to on the field. Just goes to show what a joke those measurables are and have little to do with playing football. Beason ran a 4.7+ at his pro day IIRC, and looks like a 4.4 on the field, lol.

thats because it doesnt matter how fugging fast you can run if it takes you forever to figure out where you should be running to.

So is this "the sky is falling" or is it "going to the playoffs" post. Because I get really confused around here sometimes.

that depends on how well Phillips plays this weekend. We're not eliminated yet there's still hope! but OH GOD we're helpless without Beason!

Are you kidding??? 75% of our roster is full of "no-names" and under-the-radar players!

The reason Phillips didn't get much playing time in Baltimore is for one simple reason...he had to play behind Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs. None of our LBs that are active right now could earn a starting position over either of those guys and Phillips was #2 behind Ray. It was obvious from that goal line stop on Michael Turner that this kid can play and he can make the big tackles. Sure, he made a mistake and bit on that play action that resulted in a touchdown. But I'm pretty sure everybody on this forum will agree that many more crucial mistake have been made this season, i.e. Cam's 3 INTs last week. Jason Williams showed us nothing last week and, with Phillips, we at least saw he can stop the run and I'm sure he won't make the same mistake twice.

It really gets frustrating to see guys on here and start hating on a player because his name doesn't have that marquee look. Like I said when we first signed this kid, lets give him the benefit of the doubt and see how he does, cause fellas, it really can't get any worse than where it is right now. Any type of change has the potential to be good.

so Cam's 3 ints, which 2 were actually the receiver's fault but let's not put blame where they belong because it's Cam we're talking about, were more crucial than the Panther's defense allowing teams to run all over them? Wow...Last season all the receiver's mistakes were Clausen's fault. This season, they are all Cam's. U folks really do hate ur QBs, don't u?

,

None of Cam's int's were the receivers fault. Thats ludicrous. One was a end of game desperation throw, one was a tipped ball, and one was a horrible throw on Cam's part.

Dude, did you even read the entire post or did you just see that one line about Cam and find the opportunity to restate something that Keyshawn said in the post-game analysis??

My point was that guys on this thread were hatin' on Phillips for biting on that play action, saying he sucks and what a dumb move this is on Rivera's part. When actually, that one mistake was relatively small compared to some of the mistakes other players with the big names made. I was simply using Cam as an example. And as for those 3 INTs, 2 of the 3 were god-awful passes so yea I'm gonna be honest and truthful, no matter who the player is.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
