The DeAngelo Williams factor

we're a multiple set offense. poo we even got the triple option package. Because Cam Newton is our qb, we can literally run any type of play on the offensive side of the ball. You can't say that about ANY other qb in the nfl. Not Tom Brady, not Peyton Manning. No one.

edit: it's also nice to have 2 legit tight ends along with 2 legit running backs and steve smith. You know teams like chicago who like to throw a lot are jelly.

I dunno, I'm not familiar with the Pistol. I just remember hearing the commentators mention that we had just run the Pistol a time or two during the game.

"In the pistol offense, also commonly referred to as the "pistol formation", the quarterback lines up four yards behind the center rather than seven yards, as with the shotgun formation. The running back lines up three yards directly behind the quarterback, as opposed to next to him as in the shotgun.

In the pistol formation, the quarterback is close enough to the line of scrimmage to be able to read the defense and far enough back to give him extra time and a better vision of the field just like in the shotgun."

I'm sure we ran that a few times but it only involves 1 RB.

dwill was the runningback in the pistol and stewart was in as the fullback. that was stews big run on the first drive which led to the fg i think. before cam's attempt to flip into the endzone.

or wait. maybe it was on the lafell touchdown. I know we used it in the redzone and it worked really well.

If you don't think we ran the pistol on those triple option plays with Stew and Williams, you don't know offensive formations. It was the pistol. Offset-I is from under center. Cam was about 4-5 yards off the ball.

Yep, it's a variation of the Pistol formation, it's a pistol / wing combination type of formation and it's fun as hell to watch.

I just feel like D-Will is being used incorrectly.

They keep running up the middle, but he's not that kind of back. Pounding is J-Stew's job. D-Will is an off-tackle runner, but the play calling doesn't seem to reflect that.

That's not to say that they have to be locked into those roles every single snap, but you have to play to their strengths. Williams out on the edge, Stewart between the tackles.

D Will is just fine running up the middle. It is all about good blocking. Yes D-Will likes to cutback a lot but the guy has power. He is actually pretty awesome at running between the tackles, has great vision.

    • He has made some good throws yes. His arm isn’t great by any professional measure though It might be decent enough, but the poor footwork inhibits it.  So he has to really focus on that and from what I’ve seen he is not consistent.    peace.
    • If only Bryce were 8'1" then CJ wouldn't have needed Woody Marks to carry him against the Titans nor the defense to carry him with 3 picks vs. Cooper Rush. If he were a real QB, he'd have thrown for over 250yds and the Texans wouldn't be 2-3. /s See? I can do the same dumb, lame poo that y'all do. Doesn't this make the board a better experience overall? 🙂
    • Their defense is on track to be worse than ours last year. Their run D is in the bottom half but their pass D is horrible.    32nd overall D, 32nd passD, 23rd rush D We are going to have to throw the ball against them, which means down field where they are vulnerable. Problem is Turnover Fred struggles to push the ball down the field and we have the 26th ranked pass offense. Running will help but will have to beat them through the air. On the flip side, Dallas’ offense is awesome.    1st overall, 3rd pass, 8th run.    But Evero’s defense is ranked 12th right now with the pass D around 10th and rush D around 14th.    If we can take care of the football (looking at Bryce) and we make plays down the field (also looking at Bryce) we can win, yes.
