Battlefield 3 video card....

Apparently my 2 year old video card is poo.

I am willing to spend up to $200 on a new card.

Thoughts?? I think I read radeon was the way to go but which one?

I use Nvidia cards for the most part and have been pretty happy with them. Nvidia has come out with a new driver that works very well with BF3(so i've been told) I have a Geforce GTX 460 se 1GB. (159.99 from Amazon) I've been very pleased with it. If you want to step up from that you cold go with the GeForce GTX 560 or the Redeon hd 6870, Both will run you around $180 and are good buys.

If you go Nvidia be sure to upgrade to the new 285.62 driver.

Something else to consider, depending on the model of your old card, is to make your old card a dedicated Physx card. I've never done it but have been reading about gamers that have and have gotten incredible frame rates from doing this.

Some of the more tech savvy guys here could expound on this more.

I think Nvidia has been better for a past few years. I recently got a GTX 650ti and it plays beautifully but you'll probably be looking at 560s if you don't want to go over $200.

if you want to play it moderately well, this card will work in your budget http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150521 . Granted, you wont be able to max the game out unless you have a good processor to go with it, but you will still be able to get solid framerates at medium to high. I've got that card with an 1100T X6 processor and 4 gigs of 1600 Ram and I can max everything at 1080P resoulation (minus the AA) and get a steady 40-50 fps in campaign mode and slightly higher in most multiplayer maps....

You don't have to upgrade yearly if you spend the money on quality parts the first time. Outside of adding ram, most of my builds last around four years or so....

my POS pc with a 240gt in it still runs everything on the market.

i may not be able to crank filtering and antialiasing up past 4x, but you can't tell beyond 6x anyway
