Yeah Stafford is having a slightly better year than Cam right now, we'll see if he stays out there or gets injured again, dude's made of glass. If Cam isn't having a top 5 year he's right outside it.

uhm if u had never heard of him before, than how could u possibly be impressed?

no he is not impressive at this point.

I saw the highlights we were bombarded with, and watched some of his game film since it looked like the Panthers were in the running to draft him a lot of last year.

I'll admit I didn't think Cam would be this good and wanted Luck (and wanted to go Defense when Luck didn't come out), but I thought Blaine had bust written all over him from the start.

We? I don't think you can fix anything, but stuff like this just puts more pressure on an young athlete and makes it worse. So I take it whenever it's favorable, ESPN and the "talking heads" are cool and it's ok to listen to them? But only when it's favorable, right?

Cam's a top 5 rookie for sure and having one of the greatest rookie seasons ever.

Cam Newton is NOT a top 5 QB right now. Please stop. Merril Hodge is drinking this, and you are buying right into it. Have some sense.

so Hoge was an idiot a couple weeks ago...now smart?

Cam is a GREAT rookie. I personally have never seen a rookie QB this good from a individual stand point.

Sky is the limit.

As of right now....you can't put him ahead of someone like Phillip Rivers. A slow start by Rivers doesn't make his body of work in the NFL void.

I think it has something to do with the fact that Hodge refused to even admit Newton's positives in Cam's first few weeks.

It almost seemed like Hodge was trying to not admit he was wrong about the kid even though he clearly was. Merril called Cam inaccurate, non cerebral, and other stuff that Newton has shown he has but Hodge was almost like the kid going "la la la la la nope didn't happen I'm right lalalala".

I still don't like Hodge but he's finally opening his eyes to Cam.

Rivers has sucked this season, so far. Qb rankings through the season are based on how players are playing that season, not in past seasons. That's how I look at it anyway.

Stafford is more deserving of the 5th spot than Rivers.

recent history always factors in b/c it provides insight on what they can and can't do. Rivers has played poorly for his standards, has been without his best recieving option most of the year, and his team is 4-2.

The NFL is about what you are doing now. Peyton Manning is historically a top 3 quarterback. Right now he is not in the top 32. Right now statistically Newton is a top 5 quarterback. If you want to add some intelligence to your posts and have people actual listen to you at least consider adding facts like his lack of 4th quarter comebacks compared to other top 10 quarterbacks, etc. Otherwise you have nothing.

hmmm, we're #5 in total first downs, #2 in rushing first downs, #8 in passing first downs, tied for 6-8th in 3rd down conversions, 9th in 3rd down conversion %

and #2 in the league in penalties and penalized yardage behind only oakland

cam has had 500 yards and 5 tds called back this season for things he had nothing to do with

      Especially with no other major sports in the area other than UNCW basketball and soccer. It's a good 2 1/2 hour drive just to catch a collegiate football game. If this new arena were built I would hope it also includes an Adult League - I would join up and time allowing would be more than happy to help coach some youth teams. 😄

      That was real fear in his eyes when the rope was being taken. My younger days, I had my best friend that happened to be black come over all the time. I had the nicest bulldog on the planet, my friend Damon was scared to death of him. His grandmother and daddy taught him to fear all dawgs and seen the same fear in his face and voice.    I think alllll young kids should take swimming lessons and not fear the water. Very thankful my parents did this, I no longer get in the ocean since its 50% sewage. But I enjoyed all the lakes, pools, and oceans I swam in.

      My personal opinion is the non-guaranteed contract is the main reason for NFL success. MLB and NBA players are on cruise control after their big contracts and it shows in the product.  NFL is each year you are fighting for your job. Same for the majority of the public.... You get lazy or try to coast after the 100+ million contract, your ass will be cut within 1-2 years. Then the next one will not even touch 100 million+. Besides a few NBA players like Kobe was coming for blood with a 300 million contract or 1 doll hair deal. Brandy Beal just reached a buyout where he was getting 110 million, many other cases..... I dare say his name for the hornets guy..... MLB sooo many times as well.    If the NFL starts fully guaranteeing all contracts, Id have a new hobby to fill the hours of entertainment NFL gave me.
