Rivera deflects responsibility for penalties

It's so easy to blame the refs. No coach gets all the calls they want. Just sounds like excuses for a very undisciplined team at this point.

It's absolutely true. Gross and Wharton and Smith didn't suddenly start holding more because of his coaching after a decade in the league. The refs are calling it more, simple as that.

John Lynch(retired player, Fox announcer) was at the Referee training seminars and said that the refs are being told this year "when in doubt, throw the flag". I think this would explain a lot because even if a guy is falling down or just being pushed down on a good block a flag is being called for holding or PI because the ref isn't seeing the penalty but is doubting it happened without one. Doesn't seem like the right way to go about it to me.

Definitely a leading question in the presser....I'll chalk his answer up to a little bit of rookie inexperience.....OP and the article did a poor job of characterizing his overall remarks about penalties.

fuging 12-men on the field penalties on freaking punts have got to stop.
