So who do you want with our 3rd overall pick?

Who exactly do you think is going to trade a 1st for Smitty? Or hell, even a 2nd? Neither of those seems likely to me...

Perhaps the Texans or the Chargers would be willing to give up a 2nd. I'm kind of rooting for the Texans to go far in the playoffs for two reasons. One of them is if they feel like Steve Smith could put them over the edge, they would be willing to give up a little more for him. With all that said, if we can't get that, then hopefully Smitty will restructure his deal and he stays with us.

Now you guys can call me crazy but i thought about the same thing today. Now before you guys get ready to kill me hear me out. Let's just say we are picking some were between 3 and 5 in the draft and Matt Kalil will be gone. The panthers will really think about trading out, but they will look at Smitty age and his contract numbers. If Justin blackmon is right on the board there is no chance in hell they wont take him. The reason why is the thought process of them wanting to keep trying to develop Cam and giving him weapons.

Now I always loved Smitty and I hope he never go. But his cap number maybe huge next year and somebody may want to give up a second round pick for his services. Then I can see us going into camp with Gettis number 2 Blackmon 1 and Naanee number 3 or Lafell. Trust me Nannee will be way more effective in the slot. Because you have to look at it this way. Gettis is a good WR but is he a true number 1 ? Smitty is getting old what if he gets injured who will step up and be number 1. So we need to get someone like Blackmon if we can.

Not saying my opinion want change between now and April but I think Blackmon would be a solid choice by draft time.

Smith will be a Panther until the day he decides to hang it up, that's all there is to it. When that day does come, there will be a line out the door for free agent WR's that want to be Cam's #1 target, you can bank on that. If we get Kalil or Martin and Cam has one of the youngest, best offensive lines in football giving him all day to through in this offense, guys will definitely want to play here IMO.

that contract essentially makes him untradeable. the only way he could be would be if he reconstructed it, but then there would be no incentive for us to really trade him.

there is really no pick outside of the 1st round that i would feel good about giving up for him seeing what he and cam are capable of.

I love Greg Hardy as well, and if there is no one better on the free agent market, we should definitely keep him. Yet if a Mario Williams became available, I'm willing to make space to sign him.

The gap between Hardy and Williams in production is not worth the 10 mil he will cost more a year. Not on a 2 win team with so many needs.

If we have 10 mil to use ( I doubt it ) then we should and can use them on a guy like DT Garay, LB Lawson and CB Rogers. We can have all three of them for what Williams is gonna cost.

I guess I'm still holding out for Hardy. He has potential, but how long will it take for him to be a dominating factor? How long will it be for teams to have to set two guys to block him, setting CJ free?:D

When it comes to Williams, he controls that kind of presence right now. Bringing him in will instantly improve the whole defense. That is worth 10 mil.

I think when it comes to Welker's game, he has many opportunities to make plays. He's a great receiver, but I still don't consider him elite. Cassell's not elite, but he's not bad either. (After all he did justify it by taking the chiefs to the playoffs last year.)

When it comes to Smitty playing with Clausen, every receiver in the league would have struggled playing with him. I do think receivers like Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, and those boys would have had better statistics if they played with Jimmy, but none the less they would be held back.

All in all, if we could get a high draft pick for Smith (early 2nd round or higher), we should trade him. How many of you would trade him for a 1st?

Welker is on pace to break Jerry Rice's single season record.....dude is elite.
