Record under GM Marty Hurney by the numbers

Cumulative regular season/playoff record since he became the GM in 2002: 80-79 (50.3%)

Past 5 years (2006-2011): 39-51 (43.3%)

Past 3 years (2009-2011): 12-29 (29.2%)

Past 2 years (2010-2011): 4-21 (16.0%)

Worst special teams in football in the past 20 years, worst defense in the league this year, and just one torn ACL in Cam's knee from having the worst offense. A record that gets worse and worse as you go along, only 1 game above .500 under his watch even when you count the great years prior to 2006.

...And people say this guy is a good GM?

from 2008-2010 hurney did a horrible job and we're feeling the effects of it today

bad drafting, no FA acquisitions worth a poo, bad trading, etc.

Jeff Otah, Everette Brown, Jimmy Clausen. ...those were players we traded up to get and/or our first picks in a draft. When your philosophy is to build through the draft you're not going to win picking like that. If we draft Kalil or Martin in 2012 (because, well byron bell is like the worst OT ever) we'll be replacing the guy we traded up for just a few years prior, and we might have to do it because byron bell is terrible and should be a 2nd stringer in the CFL. This is how other positions that need help (e.g. the entire defense) get ignored.

He's not. He got a rookie Head coach and bet the farm on a rookie QB #1 draft pick. Always a crap shoot.

But then he picked one that can't run an NFL style offense which means we keep our running backs running out of the pistol. AWESOME!

Aj green and later draft QB = win!

Matt Moore + Steve Smith + AJ Green and better O-line = win.

Hope he can figure it out next year. Hope Cam can figure out how to run an NFL style offense. Stewart's going to be out though.

But he drafts those awesome 7th round picks that wouldn't start for any other team.

He also leads the league in drafted players retained, never mind how bad they are, they are starting and that's what matters.

Oh and those awesome FA pick ups, yup, good for 5-6 penalties per game and can't protect Cam for poo.

Don't fug with Hurney though, he may go on a tear and piss away more 1st and 2nd round picks.

I've only seen the actual pistol offense like, twice this year. You're confusing it with the zone-read option offense.

Also, having the #4 defense in the NFL has helped Andy Dalton + AJ Green a tremendous amount.

Having the 27th ranked defense has not helped Cam.

    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
