Cam Newton- Extremely Pessimistic Before we all rage, please remember this is a one game ranking. When it's all said and done Newton will be great, of that I have no doubt. On Sunday though he laid an egg though. Cam ran the ball well, but so did DeAngelo and J-Stew, so it's hard to quantify whether he did anything they couldn't have. In passing he was sailing his passes, being inaccurate and making bad decisions. Over 100 of Newton's passing yards went to safe screen and swing passes, he didn't throw the ball down field very well at all. Cam is at his best when he uses his arm to allow his WRs to make plays on the football, and he's at his worst when he falls in love with his arm and tries to force plays. Yesterday he was focusing too much on forcing plays, and that's where he faltered.

I had to listen to the game on radio. Is this characterization true?

To some extent I suppose this could be correct. But it's just not that simple, too many varibales including who your throwing against. The Lions stayed back and putting it in an area would have had to been accurate as well.

Personally I disagree. I think Cam will play his best when we have a team to help him. We scored 35 points with Cam and I think he played good enough for a win. I am not saying he is perfect, there are things he really needs to work on. But to blame this game on his is ridiculous. How can people not see the Lions just scored 50 points on us, that's why Cam is playing bad. What kind of plays do you feed a rookie QB to catch up to a 50 point game? Probably ones that don't support his growth or have high chances of success. Asking too much of him.

Bottom line, we are asking too much of Cam. He will start playing more comfortable when we can stay ahead in games. The offense and ST showed up today and the defense hasn't shown up all year.

Much, much better I'd say.

Agreed their threads/forums for members may be "Huddle" quality, but the main topics that the guy who runs it posts are usually pretty fair assessments.

He was high on many of his throws, but his short throws looked good. While Detroit was killing us with passes underneath, that wasn't there much for Cam. With Shockey out though, he was missing perhaps his best target for the short routes (non RB).

What surprised me was Olsen's lack of participation, given that Shockey didn't play. Didn't he just have that one catch late?
