Skates or Roller Blades?

So my niece is 8...which one is the cooler one to buy her..I thought roller blades were out and were no longer the "in" thing to have..but what the hell do I know...

Our Daughter (10) likes skates too. I tried to get her rollerblades but she didn't want them. She loves the skates.

Nope. Her and her friends prefer skates. I honestly don't know any kids that use blades anymore.

All I could ever use since I was little is blades. Damn that rubber poo on the toe. Some people call it a brake, I call it a face-plant-initiator.

Blades = ice skates = me doing better since I can naturally ice skate somewhat. If she can ice skate, get her blades. If not, take her to a rink, let her try both with their rental skates.

Speed skates are awesome, but awkward at first. Weird when the wheels go out further than the actually skate shoe.
