DeAngelo Williams Hall Of Fame Stats!

Since the merger of the two leagues in 1869, DeAngelo Williams ranks NUMBER 2 among all running backs in Yards Per Carry based on first 500 rushes n the league.

Only Jim Brown, O.J. Simpson, and DeAngelo Williams have ever had in one season 1,500 total rushing yards, 15 touchdowns, and a 5.5 ypc average.

(D actually had 18 touchdowns)

In NFL history, only three running backs, im Brown, DeAngelo Williams and Marshall Faulk have ever averaged 5.0 yards per carry for three STRAIGHT years.

(the above assumes minimum 140 carries per year)

Jim Brown, DeAngelo Williams and Chris Johnson are the ONLY backs in NFL history to have 7 touchdown runs of 30 or more yards in a season

Regarding the third item, one year DeAngelo's numbers were at 4.97, but I will consider that 5.0 per carry. He MORE than deserves his contract. The above are incredible numbers, and don't forget in 2008 if he was not sharing time he would have ran for over 2,000 yards.

Not saying he's going to hall of fame. But rest assured when he retires he will have one of the highest ypc averages of all time.

Look, am not going to compare him to Jim Brown. But Jim Brown averaged 5.1 ypc for his career. DeAngelo is at 5.0. Not a huge difference, and DeAngelo (or anyone today for that matter) runs against much tougher defenses.

He MORE than deserves his contract. And don't forget, some of that represents payment for years in which he was clearly underpaid.

I understand, however, that if we are only going to use him 9 times per game that such could be questionable.

Those are neat stats but he is 133rd on the all time yards list and doesn't crack the top 50 in single season rushing. And only has 2 1,000 yard seasons.

That may be a result of the system but he isn't sniffing the hall of fame. He probably needs a spectacular 6-8 more years in the league and at least one ring to be in the conversation. Not to mention he is behind many of his peers.

I think DeAngelo is worth every dime we give him. The only time I cringe is when he gets a play call to go smash mouth up the middle. DW is an end runner, who does his best work when he gets a corner and can turn on the jets. I'm glad he's a Panther - he's a great player, a good person, and I hope like hell I get to see him on the podium at Canton one day.

would have been a lot better if he hadn't gotten hurt just about every year he's been in the league and missed a few games and if it didn't take so long for him to find his groove every year.

I think the fact he splits the load with JStew insures he'll never amass the numbers necessary to make the Hall. However, when does he gets the ball he performs like the best in the Hall.

agreed, but it depends when in the season. it usually takes nearly half the season before he kicks it into high gear.

      Nothing wrong with it at all until you start telling others they are bad fans or not fans. But you are the good fan because you never say negative stuff about the team.    I did many years of that type of uninformed fanning because there really was no info and coverage like there is with the internet.    I mean, I used to go to the store and get Street and Smith’s annual football issue. That was about the extent of what you could get if you didn’t live in a big city with sportswriters covering and reporting.  There was no video to look at or replay the games and if you didn’t live in the market you could only rarely see your football team play.    TI have fanned since being a kid in the early 1960s, and as late as 1995 - ‘97 I lived in Atlanta and good luck getting more than 3 or 4 games a year on TV. No radio either. No print coverage outside of an AP recap and box unless they played Atlanta.  People today that have always had the network connection don’t know.    I wasn’t very educated about the Panthers until I finally got internet.
