Kalil not entering 2012 draft.

Assuming you are using Mel Kiper or Todd McShay's rankings and not directly communicating with Marty Hurney and our scouting department like NJPanthers12, i will point out that Cam Newton wasn't on either of their draft boards at this time last year. A lot can change from now until the end of April. As much I as enjoy reading the "guru" projections, there is no validity in referencing where these guys are on a list in December.

Well that's true. A lot can certainly change between now and the draft. I suppose its possible a DT or OLB will shoot up the draft charts based on events that have yet to occur. I'm not sure what would cause that sudden rise other than perhaps a good workout or Combine but I can't deny it's possible. I agree that the gurus aren't always spot on but most of the time the guys they ultimately predict to go in the top 10 pretty much go in the top 10 whether you agree with them or not. Our scouts may be doing their own thing and have a totally different idea than the rest of the league (or the gurus) about who the elite players are in this draft but they would be the exception, not the rule. What happened with Cam last year was pretty unprecedented. I can't remember the last time a guy nobody had heard of a year earlier became the first pick in the draft. Nor can I remember a guy most projected as as a mid to low first rounder (and some even said not a first rounder at all) at the end of the season jumping up to the top pick.

Ok. Well, you watch speed teams over the past few years like Oregon and Florida and you watch Alshon...he just isn't fast. I don't know of anyone outside of SC fans who actually think he has legitimate speed.

So you're comparing him to the likes of Chris Rainey and Percy Harvin?

That's not the type of player he is-but you don't have to have that kind if speed to thrive at the NFL level. Of course ha isn't that fast-but he has does have sufficient speed. With his frame an overall talent and ability, 4.5 level speed works for him. I'd be ecstatic if I were a team like Jacksonville and landed him in the first. Don't force me to start losing succesful players who ran slowers 40's than that-and while I understand 40 times aren't the be-all end-all, they are the most commonly used indicator.

I urge you to read.

Just because I said he wasn't fast does not mean I don't think he can be successful. I'm sorry someone pointed out one of his flaws. Relax.

I'm perfectly relaxed. I have Cam Newton on my television and a Dr Pepper in my hand. But to say Jeffery doesn't have more speed than some here would like togive him credit for would still be incorrect.

Fair enough. I think most people who actually watch college football appropriately gauge his speed. Some who don't might underestimate his speed. His hands are undeniable though.

I think Jeffrey looks slow because he has such long strides.. I do have to say that his acceleration is lacking because of his long strides... He is not quick at all, but once he gets momentum, the guy looks like he is pretty fast for such a big guy.. just my .02.

We already have two good TE's

neither are in the top of the nfl for catches.

While i like olsen, he's been a bit of a disappointment to me. Although i definately feel he can and should improve.

Shockey is a better leader than he is player. Whether or not he's retained, i wouldn't be surprised if the panthers drafted a young te to develope.

EDIT: no te in round 1 though..more pressing needs ...namely defense.
