Has Newton surpassed Delhomme as your favorite Panther QB?

If you were at the Jacksonville game in 2003 and hung around for the ride the next few years, then you would understand that it would take a lot more than a stellar rookie season for anyone to move ahead of Jake on the favorite-meter. Jake inspired T-Shirts, in Charlotte.

Newton is going to be much, much better. And he'll have t-shirts too, and eventually he'll be bigger than Jake ever was. Just not yet. :)

Not yet but he is getting there for me.... With Delhomme even when we were down I always had hope we were going to comeback.... With Newton he is just pure excitement but I don't see the comeback demeanor in him yet

Didnt you set your Delhomme jersey on fire ?

(didnt read thread)

I have a lot of "favorites" so that part is hard to answer.

All I know is I no longer dread it when the offense gets the ball at their own 15 yard line. I no longer wince when it is 3rd down with 10 yards or more to go.

This offense moves down the field better than any Panther offense to date. The majority of it is thanks to Cam, but major props must be given to Chud, the TE's, the ability of double trouble to pick up new things like the option, and the WR's making some great catches (LA excluded, sorry).

1. Cam...He had me at hello. Seriously, I was at the first practice of Training Camp. The energy was electric then. He is the man.

2. Jake...He was the man. Blowing his ass out, X clown, the pass at San Diego to Rosy, the NFCG at Philly...but he lost me those last two years. Sorry it had to end like that. With the cryin' and all.

3. Steve B...The sneak at GB solidified him as a Panther great. Never got the way he was dealt with at the end. That sucked arse. Always a favorite.

4. Matt Moore...thanks for the memories..."What might have been"

5. Dameyeune Craig...The other number 2 from Auburn...That preseason was fun.

Sorry, guys...

Geoff Lewis...Please.

Kerry Collins...No comment.

Randy Fasani...he played in the first Panthers game I ever went to against the Bucs. Steve fumbled a punt at the end and Grammatica kicked a field goal to win...that sucked.

He's already my favorite. Great ability to be accurate down field, exciting, brings respect the team even wqhen not winning...yet. Cam is a great Carolina QB!

I don't disagree with anyone who's not there yet tho...he will likely be #1 on every Panthers fan list by next year.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
