williams and stewart next year

I believe if we see a game that has Williams struggling and Stewart soaring, Stewart will get more carries. To say that Fox is so stubborn that all he cares about is keeping whoever he started in the game is foolish. As we saw last year, it goes to whoever is producing, otherwise he would have been too stubborn to spend a 1st rounder on another RB.

Foolish? Do you even remember the two years that D will was sitting on the bench and Foster was running like a chicken with his head cut off?

Early in the season D-will struggled a couple of times but still got more carries than Stew. However with stew no longer a rookie I think FOX would be foolish not to use then in a 50/50-60/40 split. Our running game should be sick, and I cant wait to see what they do.

wouldn't that be nice? i don't think that it would keep them off the field that much. running the ball 550 times would still be less than the ravens (592) and the falcons (560) last year. ravens time of possession per game last year was 33.12, the falcons had the ball for 31.10/game. the other offenses would still be on the field a lot.

not sure if you realize this or not but the last 9 games of the season the combined stats for williams/stewart were

265/1585/22 (is that right that once every 12 carries one of them scored?)

per game that's

29/176/2.44

over the course of 16 games that would have been

464/2816/39

the record for a team's rushing TDs in a season is 36.

if we picked up a couple more carries per game

32/194/2.66 per game

512/3104/43

sorry...i just wet myself.

nice to dream.

That's some good math there.

hot hand gets the rock these days. williams will get first crack at it every week. if he stumbles then stewart will get the majority but it goes on a game by game basis.

Nice breakdown. On the time of possession front, your projection would come to 5.4 ypc. That would be a full yard more than the Falcons and 1.4 more than the Ravens. That's a huge difference and would account for a lot more time of possession, I think. Well, we can dream, can't we.

I hope they don't get more than 260-270 carries during the regular season. Yes, I realize that more carries means more yards, etc etc. But In terms of longevity and getting through the playoffs... You don't want your back to have around 350-400 carries like Larry Johnson and Clinton Portis and let up near the end of the season when you begin to need them the most.

Fresh legs were a huge factor in why our rushing attack was so good last year.

panthers want to run the ball 500 times a year. they ran it 504 times. that isn't a bad number unless you have one back doing it. we have two very good and young running backs. fresh legs isn't a problem. if we get decori birmingham involved next year....watch out. that kid has a lot of speed and some good moves of his own. he doesn't have the power that the other two have, at least not that i can tell, but he is still pretty talented. i don't think that we'll need him, though. double trouble can handle the load.

I think either one of these backs would be trouble if they were the main RB on another team. The fact that we have both of them is a privilege. We need to take advantage of that this year.

Stewart will be better next year having had one year under his belt. Williams will have a slightly better year IMO, only because he's been in the NFL a little longer.

i just hope that r passing game will be good enough so that we wont have 8 in the box every play

it wouldn't matter how great our passing game is, we are built around the run so we will keep at it until teams put 8 in the box, and then we just might think about airing things out a little

a lot teams did put 8 in the box and we still ran on them for around 150 yards

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
