Need Jamaica wedding recommendations

I'm getting married sometime this summer and we've decided on Jamaica. Looking at a full week for us and a few days for a handful of others coming with us. We are looking for an all-inclusive type deal for the convenience but don't want anything overly touristy and fake. We've already ruled out Montego Bay. I haven't thought much about price but I'm assuming 3K+ for a week for the 2 of us.

Jamaica's suffering hard times outside of MoBay....just saying. Ocho Rios (Ochi) was really nice, but a cruiseline has pulled out of porting there in favor of MoBay. Never been to the southside of the island (Kingston).

I was there this past August and ate at a nice restaurant that does wedding parties, The Almond Tree.

But dude...do you reeeaaaally want to go in the summer? Do you sweat a lot, because you will.

I love Jamaica. Love the people. Love talking to people, but just know that crime is high because the economy has hit them as well. All inclusives all around the island, but I've never stayed at one.

Food is awesome!!! But don't eat the ackee fruit off the tree.

The crime factor is why we want to stick to a resort and not really stray from it much. It doesn't bother me as much but I just want a relaxing week without dealing with bullshit. I'm a little concerned about doing it in the summer(looking at May) but, besides the heat, the timing is right. I've been leaning towards Negril but will check out Ocho Rios. Thanks.

Im getting married in June and we have already paid for our honeymoon at the Iberostar Gran Rose Hall.... I know you said no Montego Bay, but look it up...

5 star all inclusive, you even get your own butler, and from the HUNDREDS if not thousands of review I read from many resorts in the area this is the place to stay.

Every room is a suite, you get your own mini bar filled each day with turndown service, all inclusive like 5 resturants from buffet to fine dining, watersports included, and even turn down service.

Plus every room has its own big balcony..

We were going to St Lucia, but found this place and could not say no...

8 days cost me $2600.00 for both of us, suite for two and all food and top self drinks included...

Negril

Shot a wedding there last year, was very nice. It has a 7 mile beach you can walk up and down freely, you can also visit Hedonism which is a huge adult resort with naked people. Any of the sandals resorts are all the same. You can actually pool hop up and down the beach at all of them since most are owned by the same company.

I've done MoBay, Ochi Rios, and Negril. really can't go wrong at any of them.

I actually probably had the best time at the Sandals in Mobay.

Things that I would look for would be to make sure the resort is all-inclusive ONLY. I've been to ones where the resort had both all-inclusive, and non-all inclusive customers, and service sucked if you didn't tip (which is supposed to be included in your all-inclusive price.)

Also look for free watersports, some all inclusives don't have them.

I would also look for a couples only resort, but that will be dependent on who you plan to have attend your wedding.

I actually like the water itself best in Negril, but when we were there we had thousands of jelly-fish kind of making it an aquatic minefield.

I went to Jamaica...

Locals were rioting over tour buses going to the "fancy malls" which were mostly run by Indians (from India). Locals had flea market type set ups but tours usually wouldn't go there. All my wife and I wanted to do was go to take a tour of the rain forrest but noooooo, they blocked the route and attempted to flip the tour bus over in front of us. Not sure if they were succesfull or not because we had to turn around and were evacuted off the island a couple hours later.

Have Fun!

My brother went to Jamaica and tried to score some weed on the beach from a guy. It was crap. He told the guy no I want the stuff YOU smoke. They met later and went into the jungle, burned a giant spliff of some really good stuff. My brother remembers the Jamaican talking about Jah and hearing jungle birds going coocoocoocaacaacaa. Then he thought "I could be murdered here and no one would ever know what happened to me". :D

Yeah you have to be careful with that in Jamaica....the drug dealers and police work together a lot of the time.

1. Gullible tourist gets offered pot

2. Gullible tourist puchases pot at a great price.

3. Gullible tourist gets arrested minutes later.

4. Gullible tourist gets bailed out of jail by pissed off newlywed wife.

5. Gullible tourist gets out of jail for $300 and sees that money being divide up with drug dealer who sold him pot.

6. Drug Dealer and cop give a friendly wave as you walk out and offer your gullible tourist a$$ a Red Stipe as a consolation.

In all seriousness, Jamaica is beautiful and a lot of fun and the people are great. I was just there at a bad time and would love to go back one day. Just like any other foreign place, use your head and don't go anywhere you don't belong.

    • In my opinion Fitterer was probably right about not paying McCaffrey. Now not wanting to "pay RBs" in my opinion isn't something you want to set in stone, to me it all comes down to the individual.
    • Maybe I'm just not understanding, but everywhere that I have read says that signing bonuses go against the cap prorated by as much as five years. The following example uses Andrew Luck's rookie contract as an example. "Take Andrew Luck, the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Luck signed a four-year contract with the Colts worth $22.1 million and included a $14.5 million signing bonus. Rather than a $14.5 million cap hit in 2012, the Colts spread out his signing bonus over the life of his contract. The hit against the cap would be $3.625 million per year over four years instead of a direct cap hit of $14.5 million directly in 2012. This gave the Colts more leverage and cap flexibility in signing other players." https://www.the33rdteam.com/nfl-signing-bonuses-explained/ I don't know why some of you think that signing bonuses aren't counted against the cap over the length of the contract, but whatever.   "The bonus with a signing is usually the most garish aspect of a rookie contract. Bonus is the immediate cash players receive when they ink a deal. It factors into the cap, but only for the whole contract duration, in terms of salary cap calculations. In the case of Bryce Young’s $24.6 million signing bonus, that’s prorated to approximately $6.15 million per season over a four-year deal. This format allows teams to handle the cap and provides rookies with some short-term fiscal stability, which is important given the high injury risk in this league." https://collegefootballnetwork.com/how-rookie-contracts-work-in-the-nfl/ I understand how signing bonuses can be a useful tool in order to manage the cap, and as one of the article suggests, signing bonuses may become important if you have a tight cap, but the bill is always going to come due. I'm not necessarily referring to you Tuka, but it seems to me that others simply don't want to understand that fact which is why they're reacting to what I'm saying negatively. How odd. In any event, I have a better general understanding of why signing bonuses are used now, and it's generally to fit salaries under the cap. Surely players, whether they be rookies or not, love a signing bonus because they get a good portion of their money up front. This in turn gives them more security and probably amounts to tax benefits as well. I also understand why teams would not want to use signing bonuses, particularly for players or draftees who have a higher probability of being gone before a contract even ends.
