Life after Chud.....

I'll agree with you that Chud is not the single most important piece of this puzzle. But completely devaluing him like that is probably too far in the opposite direction.

Will we go back to the stone age b/c of a coordinator change (if it happens)? No. But we're also not going to be exactly the same either.

I am not completely devaluing him.....but if you insert a young and forward thinking OC.....it isn't that big of a deal.

People seem to forget the slop OC he had his last year being an OC prior to arriving and how he was questioned almost every game to start the season.

Cam > Chud.

I'm conditioned to screaming "Why have they abandoned the run game?! They should fire Chud!!!" every Sunday. If he leaves, I'll have to remember to insert another name there. This is unacceptable.

it is called developing a QB faster.....and Rivera has more than hinted that is exactly what he wanted. Fast growth and exposing Cam to situations. Could of gone more of the Dalton route.....but the hope is what they did w/ Cam pays off and I think you could see the absurd early reps pay off late.

All I'm saying is that while I agree that it's NOT the end of the world and his (possible) departure wouldn't mean we are back to the bottom of the offensive barrel it's also not something to be overlooked or dismissed by saying he's overrated, move on.

Clearly talent on the field is more important than the coordinator - I'm not sure that's even up for debate by anyone who actually thinks before they speak.

well, ideally you don't change OCs w/ a young QB. But I think Rivera wants to run that scheme and will continue to do so......he believes in the Norv Turner way of things.

but Chud is overrated right now. That doesn't mean he isn't a good OC. And there is nothing to do but move on and it won't be that big of a deal.

that said, I would be SHOCKED if Chud got a HC gig right now.

I was kidding. Every OC takes a beating in the blogosphere any time a single play goes bad. They're still blaming McCoy everytime The Golden Calf of Bristol schits the bed on the Broncos forums.

Not quite sure you can say he is over rated. He is getting looks at HC by people who do this for a living, not type about it on a message board, and HC is the top of the ladder for his career.

okay....doesn't change the fact coming into this Cam Newton season that he only was an OC for 2 years. One good, one bad.

Smarter men than I have said that there has never been a talent like Cam Newton in the history of the NFL at QB. A lot of what we did this year was just Cam being Cam. This season is what got him on the map.

Just like OC/ DC on Super Bowl teams

He had a produtive season

Part due to his efforts /part due to a record breaking rookie QB

And like Super Bowl OC/DC

That does not translate to a winning head coach as the systems and players that got you the interview will not be on your team !

Anyone who Hires Chud right now is doing so prematurely and will suffer with what they get. Chud is young and need 3 more years IMO before he will be anywhere near ready. Thats not say a owner or GM will not give him that job. Chud called some good games for us then back them with some bad ones. He was good but IMO not Mike Martz or Norv Turnner great, and you see what has happened when they became coaches.

    • I'd hold on to Walker - we have no OT depth at all. Freeling is a block of clay - all the tools are there and he appears to have a great attitude. He needs serious work on his technique to realise his potential though.
    • From my watch last night: They weren't trading out of 19 unless it was a daft offer once Freeling got there. They were clearly antsy to get Hunter - and Minnesota actually called to offer the trade down. They weren't trading out of the third round pick once Brazzell fell to it (and Canales would have been happy with him in the second round). They traded back a lot on Day 3 - even if Morgan 'Babe Ruth'd' it with Lee, Hecht and Wheatley; they clearly weren't the only guys they would have taken at those picks. I'm curious to know which player caused the reaction at the start of day 2 (Dan Morgan): "of course they'd pick him"
    • Watching this confirms that this staff and front office is super high on Monroe Freeling. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gotta a real chance to win the starting LT job in camp. If he does, we can look to flip Rasheed Walker to a contender desperate for tackle help.   As for Ickey I still really like him and wanna extend him but based on how the staff was talking about Freeling it might be time for ickey to start taking some practice sets at guard if he wants to stay here as we are gonna have to have figure out a solution for the contracts of Lewis and Hunt.  My preferred scenario for the Oline in 2027 is Freeling-Ickey-Hech-Lewis-Moton.
