Jake Delhomme May Retire

Chickenwing- one play doesnt win or lose the game.

From 2003-2009 I cant find one year where Jake came within 1000yds of what Cam did this year. Likewise I cant find a defense to come with 1000 yds of how pathetic ours was this year.

Jake was a product of good defense and a solid running game. He was a game manager not a game changer. Just like The Golden Calf of Bristol. He was a product of a solid D and a solid running game (The Golden Calf of Bristol is worse than Jake). We remember Jake for his charisma and comebacks, but fail to see his comebacks are a product of Fox ball(just like The Golden Calf of Bristol)

He has a career QB rating of 80, and he deserves to have his jersey retired?

jake should have had the chance to retire a panther on his own terms. they should at least offer up the opportunity to do so. jake was great guy and left us with many great memories.

Cam is the best QB to ever put on a Panther jersey, and how one could argue, I understand. He was a great guy, and our longest tenured qb to date.

it aint all about the stats. its what they mean to the organization. he meant a lot to the team and fans. he was the best qb in this teams history. heck, sam mills only played 2-3 seasons for us and has a statue and name in the stadium. not all about stats.

I didn't like it then, either. It's also sort of rude to call Steven Davis a "lesser player."

I don't have this sentimental need to see my favorite players retire in front of a Carolina Panthers logo spread that others seem to.

What are you worried about? The salary cap hit? :sosp:

It's a nice gesture that teams like to do. Hardly worth pissing and moaning about.

Not rude......

Delhomme did more in Carolina than Davis or Beurelein.

Yeah the one day contract is a no-brainer. Let's show some class for a guy who always did the same.

He was an above average quarterback who was absolutely clutch in that Superbowl season.

Agree with most that retiring jerseys and statues should be for HOF type players.

Jake was and still is my favorite Panther of all time. To not offer him a 1-day contract would be absurd. While I do agree that he isn't worthy of a statue or his # being retired, he needs to be honored in some form because of what he did for the organization. There was absolutely nothing to not like about the guy - probably one of the classier Panthers to ever put on a uniform.

Would love to have him come back and coach as like an assistant qb coach or something.

How many running backs could've done what David did?

How many quarterbacks could've done what Delhomme did?

Well, let's see. In the first half of week one, we had Davis, but no Delhomme. How did that turn out?

For that matter, if you look back you'll find Davis missed two full games in the regular season. Delhomme none. We were 1-1 without Davis in the regular season. 2-0 without him in the playoffs. And if you check the Super Bowl stats, you'll find a heck of a lot more contribution from Delhomme than Davis.

And to be clear, I'm pretty sure you know you have no argument and you're just wanting to be a prick. I'm only indulging you because I'm bored :sosp:

(but this isn't exactly all that exciting either)

That didn't answer my question.

How many quarterbacks in 2003 could've done what Delhomme did? Better yet, how many quarterbacks could've done in a career what Delhomme did, since this is a question of his overall career?

Then ask the same questions of Davis. Who, I'm sure you know, was up for HoF nomination recently. Do you suppose Delhomme will be up for HoF nomination?

I'm also glad to see that one of the most respected posters on this board, who receives praise by the boatloads, has called me a prick for disagreeing with him. Under those new rules about personal attacks from half a year or so ago, I believe that qualifies as temporary banning material.

Davis had one year with us where he contributed. Delhomme had way more than that. His pre-Panther years mean something to the NFL, not to us.

And as I recall, you were one of the folks who complained when the new rules were implemented because one of your favorite ways to entertain yourself was to be an e-asshole and you were mad that they were taking that away from you.

Seeing as you said yourself that you enjoy acting like a jerk online, not like I'm suggesting anything you haven't already admitted. Couple that with the fact that giving a guy a one day contract so he can retire a Panther is a pretty stupid thing to argue about, and it makes it tough to take this debate seriously.

Hence, why I think you're trolling. And frankly, trolling bores me.

    • Right, so basically what I said in my first post about this last night. Tepper needs to use that big wallet of his in one of the few ways it can be used in the NFL given the cap.   Give Scourton a bigger signing bonus but not a fully guaranteed deal. Everyone wins in that scenario as if Scourton is smart and hires good money people, he'll take that bigger signing bonus and use it to make more money in the end over the next 4 years than if he just had his fully guaranteed deal and a smaller signing bonus.
    • It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ .   * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them.    Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help. Heres a good video, if you can stand coked up pat and mask look-a-like AJ
