Atlanta Falcons fun fact

here's some "intelligent smack" :

the falcons are a team in "win now" mode that can't win in the playoffs. their genius coach/GM combo in smith and dimitroff have done nothing but spin their wheels and trade draft picks as if they've done anything of note with their current guys and are "just a few pieces" away from taking it all.

here are some more refined points about our pooty rivals to the south:

a. they've got a guy in jason snelling who's fully capable of splitting carries with turner the way we do with williams/stewart which would allow him to not be gassed by the end of the year, but they don't.

b. they traded five draft picks to acquire julio jones. six if you count the pick actually spent on him. meanwhile their star franchise guy in roddy white is near the top of the league in drops and tends to be hot/cold and their other main pass catcher in tony gonzalez is on borrowed time and will eventually retire, taking a bunch of receptions in that offense with him. i think something like 150 catches over the last two seasons are walking out the door with gonzalez when he calls it quits.

c. the stuff described in b means, in effect, that they've further neglected their DL/OL depth issues for another season. sam baker (a guy they traded back in to the first round for) was supposed to be their franchise left tackle and he's quietly busted. his stand-in is will svitek who's nothing to write home about himself. their center in todd mcclure is getting up there in age as well.

d. dunta robinson has been a huge FA bust for them. football outsiders ranks him 52nd against the pass for the 2010 season. this guy was handed the second biggest contract ever for a cornerback according to the estimates available.

you may look at this list and realize that we have a lot of the same issues-DL depth is weak, OL depth is just alright, we basically don't have a (proven) number two corner on the roster, any safety we have not named charles godfrey is a problem.

well, we also didn't spend six picks on a #2 wide receiver this previous draft.

    • I think in all honestly, the final 2 games are carrying most of the weight in a lot of Bryce talk IMO.    During the window where he "blew it out of the water" window......were a lot of games where he was not above average.  AZ is largely one of those stat sheet games.   Where the stat sheet reflects QB play that didn't exist in the game.  That game was all Chuba.  Meh vs Dallas.  Meh vs Philly.  Meh vs Giants.  Probably average vs Tampa, Den, Saints.  Bryce made HUGE strides vs what he was.  We should be happy.   But when you start comparing him to the rest of the league.....people I think are going too far.  His best aspect in reality.....is his scrambling.  And that's probably not a great thing give his size.
    • Mays and Zavala looked lost in the Reich offense.  Granted Zalava was probably playing too soon due to injuries but he looked terrible.  This new staff seems to be doing well with our OL.  I also wonder if having two vets in Hunt and Lewis just made life that much easier on whoever was/is playing center.
    • What the Panthers should target in order (via free agency or via trade): 1. Julian Blackmon  2. Mike Hilton 3. Jaire Alexander 4. Jalen Ramsey
