Imagine if we had OTA's last season

Can you imagine what kind of damage we would have done? We would have gone to the playoffs. Take away some of those young mistakes and we beat the Packers and the Vikings.

If the refs don't cheat us at home vs Saints it would have changed so much. I feel we are a lot closer than even some here think.

2 more wins than without.

now offseason with beason, TD, otah, and gettis healthy? wildcard spot and ahead of the falcons in NFCS.

Beason aggravated his achilles' working out too much and putting too much strain on it, pretty sure if he was under the guide of actual nfl trainers that wouldn't have happened.

Other teams would have had OTAs though. It would have helped them as well as us, so it was equal amongst all teams. I would have preferred them though. Don't like seeing any player get injured.
most teams weren't starting out from scratch with a new coaching staff, new offense, new defense, new rookie QB.

no doubt we would have benefited form it more than most teams given the same amount of time. no team needed it as much.

I don't know............I'm thinking we would have at least been more fundamentally sound on the offensive side of the ball. Remember the how many false starts and illegal penalties in the first 2 games alone. Few of those pulled us out of goal to go situations that I remember. All in all, I think we would have been at most 2 games better. Probably one game better.

I heard some "analysts" talk about how a simplified play book helped out rookie QBs. San Fran had a new coaching regime and they turned out pretty well. I just think the strength & conditioning really affected us.

Regardless, it would have helped to have OTAs and an off season. Luckily we do this year and my expectations couldn't be higher.

No OTA's probably didn't impact the teams with veteran coaches and players operating the same system that much at all....harder on the younger guys without much experience....hardest on new coaches implementing brand new systems on both sides of the ball, rookies (we had 4 starting for large portions of the season) and the players with conditioning/injury issues.

With Carolina coming off a 2-14 season with a brand new staff and schemes, I really can't see how it could have had a greater negative impact than it did on our team. I'm giddy at the prospect of Rivera taking full advantage this year.

2011 is over.....move on.

PS.....you can't take away young mistakes. :cam:

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
