Shockey was our most reliable TE in the redzone and made the tough catch for a 1st down often. It seemed that Newton looked more for him than Olsen when he got in a pinch. Olsen has a ton of potential but he could learn a little toughness from Shockey. If I was in a fight, I would be looking for Shockey to have my back. I think that Newton feels the same way when he needs to get rid of the ball.

if we can sign him for cheap.. resign him, but if not.. I dont think it would be wise to pay premium money for an old banged up TE. Olsen is more than capable to be a full time starter, then we can add depth through other means

Shockey is our only dependable receiving option not named Steve Smith.

Old and banged up? Are you a fan of multiple teams? How do you not notice quality on your own team?

      Jake, to me, will always hold a special place in my heart.  I really feel like for his era, he deserved way more love than he got, and should’ve had more than his one Pro Bowl.  He was a gamer with an underrated rocket arm. but let me tell you, after his Tommy John surgery, when he came back, I can’t remember who it was against, but it think it was a division game, he threw a ball that was supposed to be a throw away, as I think he was under pressure, and that poo floated forever and died right at the boundary where a defender ran over and picked it off.  One of the worst throws I ever saw.  His arm just wasn’t the same after the injury and surgery.  All that to say, that’s what almost every Bryce throw to the sidelines looks like to me.

      And again, when watching him in college he had one distinct trait that I feel makes a franchise QB - on those plays when everything breaks down around him, he creates one on his own.  He doesn’t rely on or need everyone else.  That play last night on the final drive where he was getting sacked and threw it to Diggs before his knee hit the ground?  He does similar things all the time.  Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, etc., they all do it.  It’s what made Cam so special. but we picked a guy that’s the opposite of that.  He desperately needs someone else to make a play for him because he can’t.  Even that play yesterday on 4th down to Horn.  That wasn’t a great pass.  The defender was late and came down to make a play in the ball and Bryce threw it high and outside where Horn had to leave his feet and really use strong hands to catch it.  We relied on a 5’9” rookie playing in his first pro game to make THAT catch at THAT time bc of the early turnovers and a not great throw.  Crazy.

      This thread is dumb. But I do think canales gets too cute with play calling and I don't think he's a good coach
