Could Brockers overtake Claiborne as the top D prospect in the draft?

I doubt they'd trade up for Brockers. As much as I'm enamored with him, I wouldn't want to trade up to have to do it. If Brockers did go before our pick, as well as Claiborne, I'd hope they'd do everything they could to trade down. Especially if we win the coin toss with Miami someone could likely offer us something to move ahead of them to take Tannehill.

Even Gabbert was traded up for...so it could happen :)

I'm just saying, Brockers has been given this label as this can't miss stud DT and he's just not. He's an average 1st round DT with some nice upside. I just think some people around here are labeling this guy as the next great DT without really knowing much about him.

From what I've seen - and granted, I'm no scout - I was underwhelmed by Brockers. That said, I trust Hurney in the 1st round so if he's our pick I'm good with that. But I still think he's overrated as a prospect around here because everyone wants there to be a stud DT ready for us to take at 8-9. He's a good player, but he's VERY raw and, as I said, I don't see his play on the field as justifying his reputation at this point.

My top-5 defensive players:

1. Janoris Jenkins

2. Morris Claiborne

3. Luke Kuechly

4. Dontari Poe

5. Courtney Upshaw

How do you knock Brockers and then put Poe on your top five? Brockers has produced more than Poe has, and against better competition. Brockers has better technique and fewer questions about his motor. You want a raw, upside-only pick? You've got him ranked at number four.

PS: Some sites actually have Brockers ranked in the top ten. It's not just need.

Just like Cam last year Brockers flew up the board. I'm not the one scouting or mock drafting, I did get on the Brockers train before he flew up in the rankings though.

Any pick can be a miss. The guy is pushing around guys older than him already just imagine when he gets to be 22-25 yrs old. He will be more of a monster than he already is. If they think he's the truth I fully endorse a trade up and Marty is good for that

If Claiborne falls it's a no-brainer. I'd take Claiborne and try to get Poe

You sound angry that your inability to comprehend an entire post frustrates your little mind.

I'm not angry at all, this is a sports forum and if anyone is getting upset over anything on this site, they need to take a break from the internet and rethink a lot of things.

I've got an opinion, so do you. Get off my ass.

I completely agree with this. I think it's fine not to like Brockers. I disagree with, but to each their own right? What I'm confused about is how anyone could put Poe above Brockers if their reasoning is that Brockers is raw. Brockers is definitely more refined than Poe, he plays with great leverage, constantly commands double teams and can split them. Poe gets negated by guards one on one. You can like both, you can dislike both, but I just can't see how Poe would have the advantage over Brockers.

Poe is a different kind of DT. He's a space-eater, a guy who occupies blockers and takes on double teams. Brockers is a penetrating/pass rushing DT. I like Poe a lot better for what he does and think it'll translate well to the NFL. Brockers? Maybe, maybe not. I've just seen too much of him getting pushed around by college OL to feel good about taking him in the top-10.

what? you obviously never seen Brockers if you think he doesnt occupy blockers or command doubles.i also find it dishearting that there are no game breakdown on youtube of Poe. Brockers game does translate to the NFL.

Poe isn't that guy, though. He has that body, but his technique and effort aren't consistent enough for him to actually do it. His physical attributes mean he should dominate, especially at a school like Memphis. Brockers put up better numbers in the SEC than Poe did in C-USA.

2 sacks makes Brockers a pass rusher? He holds up very well against the run, even in the SEC. I'm not sure what you're seeing when you watch him, but I can't agree.

Brockers is exactly what you described Poe as, but with the potential to do BOTH. I don't know what you've watched of Brockers that has him getting pushed around, but in what I've watched the only times he isn't going the direction he wants to be is from triple teams or cut down blocks when he doesn't see the blocker coming.

On a side note, if we draft him we should nickname him the Juggernaut.
