I hope Special Teams are not an afterthought this year ~

Some good off season topics so far (!) with most (reasonably) about who is available and do we want them -

I know we need Defense. Beason wont be able to do it all. Another pass rusher, some help for Gamble.

For years we have looked for a replacement for Muhammad (s?), someone to take pressure off Smith. We keep failing. I have a lot of hope for Lafell and Gettis - but truth is we are going to have to look for Smith's replacement in a few years. :(

Anyway - I hope the staff pays some serious attention to our Special Teams. I don't want us to be an afterthought or teams put together from scraps. I want us to be a threat on PR and KR. I want to not cringe everytime our kicker goes out to attempt a field goal. I want punts to go out of bounds from the 1-5 yard line!!

Ok..wishful thinking...but dang...is it Armanti's fault hes not a return man or is the blocking scheme just continually suck? Mare is good in the fact we dont need two kickers, one for kick offs and one for field goals but if we cant count on him to make them he has to go.

Surely there has to be some people in the draft that can (literally) kick butt.

Injuries depleted depth. Baker can't punt more than 45 yds and Mare blows. Oh don't forget AE does too. Staff couldn't do anything about those things last year.

They weren't an afterthought last year, injuries caused almost constant changing personnel and things got better as the year went on in spite of that.

We found a kick returner, now we just need a punt returner.

All it takes is staying healthy and having good depth at each position. Can't keep having so many injuries and having to keep signing random dudes off the street.

We had special teams-quality guys starting on defense and Wal-Mart greeter quality guys playing Special Teams last year. It'll improve by default. I doubt it gets worse.
