i don't think there could be a more underwhelming and frivolous pick to make than David DeCastro at 9, with some of the glaring holes we have at other positions. Interior line is not something that requires superstar players to be able to contend, and we kind of already have a superstar guy in there that we got at the bottom of the 2nd round (Kalil) anyway.

the only way you draft DeCastro in the top ten is if your team is already complete and you somehow have ended up selecting in the top 10 through a prior trade. Even the Patriots don't have the benefit of that even if they picked top ten off a superbowl berth, because their defense is porous

You dont draft for need at #9, you draft for Best Football player available. I know what we lack and what we need... to say underwhelming and frivolous is silly. How can a pro bowl guard be silly? Give me a break man. Im not talking about the Patriots, and I do not think their blueprint for the draft is the best.. all I am saying at #9 is he is BPA, not that he will be the pick, although I think he should be. I'd rather have a guy playing guard going to the pro-bowl at #9 then a guy that busts... that to me is silly. And, I dont want a DT at #9 that some of the QB's and WR's put up more bench reps.. and the two CB's that will be there have issues... so who do you draft? I think we wont draft decastro, but there is NO QUESTION that he would make our OL better right now, regardless of who we have at guard.. But I see your argument. And the reason you dont draft a guard there is because the cost.. but with the NEW CBA, it allows you do more. Its not a sexy pick because its not a WR or a OT, but its a solid pick none the less.. to argue that is silly. I would also think that with Cam Newton being an important part of what we do that interior linemen is something that you wouldnt want to skimp on, especially when other teams try and find interior pass rush.

god i'm sick and fuging tired of this stupid BPA thing constantly being slung around this forum

BPA BPA BPA BPA BPA BPA BPA BPA BPA BPA BPA BPA BPA BPA

based on what? There's no universal draft board to reference to know who is going to be a better player in the NFL. BPA is a strictly subjective thing where everybody's big board is different and therefore not created equal in accuracy, and the scouts and GMs probably take into account more than simply how good a prospect someone is compared to someone else (which is probably what most of you posters consider), and in this case it leads people to think you should draft superstar players at positions you really don't need anybody who's better than competent over positions that require players of a certain talent level to be productive.

and how would he make us infinitely better on the line? Neither Wharton nor Hangartner was the worst lineman last year, and DeCastro can't play tackle (please don't argue that he could lol)

honestly the difference between drafting a 12 year pro bowl guard over a DT that ends up busting at 9 would make a marginally better team overall. The return rate is just so limited for interior linemen and it's why Kalil fell as far as he did despite being one of the best center prospects in recent memory.

is DeCastro a better prospect than Brockers? Probably, but a lot of great prospects turned out to be shitty pros, and while I don't think DeCastro busts it's the fact that you can literally look under the sink and find a starting guard which makes it pointless to draft one at 9 while our DTs keep getting blown off the line of scrimmage like ants on a windshield.

at least he'd have more trade value or if you keep him you don't have to sign Stewart to a max contract which is probably what will end up happening next offseason lol

Yep. Richardson would def be BPA.

I get tired of hearing it too. BPA, Need, AND POSITION all factor in. What if Tannehill the BPA?

it's the way it should be. you figure out what your biggest needs are, and THEN you go and factor in who is better than who. I might pick Claiborne over Brockers if both were on the board at our pick.

Guard is never one of your biggest needs when your DL ranking is 32nd and your no.2 corner is a better fit in the lollipop guild than the NFL

I think BPA makes your team better, while considering needs. Im just giving my opinion. I think Dre Kirkpatrick is the selection on defense. Raw talent pushing only 19 reps after he said he wasnt going to lift. That is embarassing. :( I think Hogan, Butler, Cpt, Gamble, and Stanford are decent for us..who knows.
