This an absolutely identical situation to Jimmy and Cam a year ago.

No one expected them to play like Vets. We expected to see improvement and development as the year progressed. They did not. Damione Lewis was a rotational player, that's where contributed best. Fua doesn't even posses that kind of potential.

They are third round picks who weren't even able to live up to that billing, and there is little investmen made in them. We should seek any upgrade possible and not concern ourselves with making sure they get their fair shake. If their play had earned them one last year, it would be different but it did not.

The huddle would have gone up in flames if we had passed on Cam just because we wanted to make sure it was fair for Jimmy. If Cam had gone elsewhere an put up similar numbers to what he did here, everyone here would be on suicide watch.

You just can't run your team that way, you know that Horus.

Not at all identical.

Different coaches(Rivera was not attached to Jimmeh at all)

Clausen had a full offseason with OTA's etc

You really can't tell me you can base third round DT's with no offseason.

Fox wasn't even attached to Clausen. It was a Hurney pick. He was still here and was willing to move on because Jimmy sucked.

If you really think that Rivera the D Minded Coach is comfortable with our DL as is just because they didn't have the supposed advantage of OTA's, especially after Cam had the best rookie season of all time without the same "advantages" at the most difficult position in all of sports, then I really just don't know what to say to you.

With injuries and what he saw from our safeties I am not sure Rivera was comfortable with any aspect of the D.

I don't think we can compare Cam to anyone...he is a freak. He has dominated the last 3 years stepping onto brand new teams. Fua and McClain were suppose to suck. Any raw DT will suck if thrust into the job week 1 this year. Vets would probably make Rivera comfortable...getting healthy or coming on board.

At this point, I'm not going to be picky and say that we already have this type of guy or whatever. Depth is a good thing, especially when you suck balls at that position. He had his best year under Rivera, could probably get him for cheap. BRING THE MAN IN!

Only thing that makes me not want Garay is that he might keep is from drafting Dontari Poe. I doubt they'd sign Garay, keep Edwards, and McClain and Fua... and then draft Poe.

I think, long-term we'd be better suited drafting a long-term stud DT than signing a middle-of-the-road free agent who would fill in for 2-3 seasons.

But like I said, if he's relatively cheap, I wouldn't hate the move.

As someone has stated before. Drafting Poe would be like Drafting Fua again.... We have our younglings at DT.

If the price is right i think that signing Garay could be the best move that the panthers could make this offseason. Adding Garay to a defense that is regaining a healthy Edwards and healthy Beason would quickly fix many of the interior defensive issues that we suffered from last year and I think that he would compliment Edwards very well. Also, I think it would allow the panthers to focus more on the secondary and obtaining a #2 WR in the draft this year because honestly I cant take much more of watching Munnerlyn, Butler, and Sanford attempt to play CB. Without Garay I think we have to draft DT and CB in the first to RDs. With Garay our options in the draft are much more open.

Poe was a beast at the combine, but there have been tons of players that tore it up at the combine but never amounted to much in the NFL. Remember Vernon Gholston, dude was a FREAK at the combine and he draft stock went from a top 15-20 pick to top 10 and the dude was a complete bust.

I don't think I'd label Vernon Davis a complete bust. Did it take him a while to come around? Sure. But in five years, he's at least made the Pro Bowl, there's a lot of TEs that can't say that. And he had an incredible moment in the playoffs this year.

Some of us see a full offseason for these kids and cannot help but think improvement. A year of experience under the belt. A year stronger and wiser. A whole year of coaching should all work in our favor. I invision our D-line playing well this year.

A healthy Edwards upgrades the line immediately. A full off-season development for the younguns should improve the line even more. As is, we should be better. Maybe not great, but better.

Throw in Garay and we are set.

Just more random thoughts. And GOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

how low have our standards gotten that you assume everybody's just going to be better

out of our pile of young DTs if one of them developed into a starter it would be a surprise. Relying on Fua, Kearse, McClain, Shirley, and Neblett to get better and thinking Ron Edwards is going to come back from a torn triceps at 33 and wreak havoc at the POA is setting yourself up for failure

Really any team that preaches having competition only has room for 2 of the young DTs we have

Vernon Gholston not Vernon Davis
