Dontari Poe

Recommended Posts

I think part of the reason UNC fans are not impressed is because Coples didn't make a lot of big plays. Part of the reason he didn't is because he faced double teams and chip blocking on a lot passing downs. From what I've seen Coples pass rush is very good, his speed rush is dangerous. He just needs to get stronger because he doesn't look so good against the run. All of my close friends are UNC fans, so by default I've seen my fair share of Coples.

Poe doesn't look like a top 10 pick to me. In the long term (a few seasons) he could develope into a good run blocking DT in a 4-3 imo.

If he is coached up, he should become MUCH MORE than a run stuffing DT. With the quickness, explosion, strength, and athleticism he has....he could be a disruptive force in the middle. Much like Kris Jenkins was.

I'm beginning to think we should go DE in the first, then CB in the 2nd. Something like...

1-Quinton Coples/Melvin Ingram/Courtney Upshaw

2-Josh Robinson/Stephon Gilmore/Jayron Hosley

Upshaw will never be a DE...he is an OLB at best.

Ingram is a tweener.

Coples is the only true DE in your list.

I would LOVE to have Coples in the first and one of your three mentioned CB's in the second.

Pretty predictable.

People talking down Poe, want Coples (whom i feel isn't worth the pick).

If Poe wasn't good at memphis (on tape), then he wouldn't have been invited to the combine, and wouldn't have been considered a top DT prospect to begin with.

Everyone who talks down Poe, is assuming he's the #1 rated DT based on the combine alone, and that is fuging retarded.

his performance at the combine, just made the scouts go back to watch more tape of him at mempis.

Just admit ya don't want Poe. Don't make up poo to say he isn't worth the pick, when majority of scouts disagree with ya.

We have gone through this before. I doubt that people's opinion will change no matter what is debated back and forth. Either you think that his college performance wasn't good and question his desire, or you look at his measurables and the fact he played on a team which won 5 games during his career and say who could get too excited when you are down 20 points by halftime.

I personally think he is worth the pick but for some strange reason Hurney isn't consulting me before he makes his decisions.

Did he say why?

He pretty much said he wasn't giving it his all and questioned his motor and dedication. The guy helps coach the team in the offseason so I'd really have to take his word. Sounds like JP without all the upside and wore the same #, ugh.

considering a lot of guys go through the motion at practice, and sometimes that falls back on coaching. you have to keep your players motivated. UNC had way to many issues with coaching and players for the whole motor and dedication thing to jump up. if he was really that bad in practice the coaches there would have had no problem benching him like they did Donte Paige-Moss.

I don't think that any of the DT's are big time game changers in this draft. I also (like Rivera) don't see DT as the HUGE need that many on here do. Sign another vet and actually invest a little time in the young DT's that we have.

But, many of you think that the smarter move is to take 2 3rd round picks....give them zero OTA's....give them a shortened TC.....give them zero vet DT's to rotate with....give them zero time to develop (usually takes a season or two for a DT to develop)...and then throw them away to just replace them with another rookie.

Geesh.

My problem with those two guys is that they're both smallish and lightweight. I'd much rather have more physically imposing guys. Those guys are third rounders for a reason, they will have to be at their very best to compete with bigger stronger guys across from them.

Yes I'd take a bigger rookie over those two guys who struggled because of their lack of size. Adding another guy doesn't mean we're throwing Fua and McClain away it only means we are adding more size and more talent to the rotation. There is simply not enough talent in the middle and Marty will not get us a stud FA either so...

I had kinda given up on Coples even being there at 9. But some of the talking heads are saying that Ryan Tannihill will be reached for like Locker, Ponder whoever.

I would love to see Coples and Gilmore in the first two rounds. That or the reverse of Dre and Branch.

    • Don't have to be miss cleo. His weakness are length, athleticism, creating his own shot, defense, finishing at the rim,  Strengths - shooting and IQ.   Likely won't work as non athletic shooters don't typically work.

    • I live in Indiana and took a trip that weekend to watch my two friend's teams play (Chiefs and Vikings) IN Minnesota when they were playing at a college field, I think TCF? Anyways, our plan was to watch the game (noon game) then do some shopping at the Mall of America, I wasn't planning on watching the Panthers play Seattle since I was out sight seeing and walking around after the noon game had ended. By the time we were walking back into the Mall the Panthers were down by 2 scores in the 4th or going into the 4th and we were all thirsty from walking around for 2.5 hours after the Vikings game so we decided to postpone shopping until after we ate. We found this nice little sports bar inside the mall that had the game on. Man, I'm so glad we skipped shopping because that was probably the most excited I've been in some time for a win. Beating Seattle in 2015 felt like the "monkey off the back" sort of feeling and I knew we had finally arrived as a team. The entire bar erupted when Cam hit Olsen for that walk off TD. Literally one of the greatest moments of my life. My friend wasn't so happy though lol, by the time the Panthers game ended ALL of the stores inside the mall had closed and he wasn't able to get any souvenirs. It was his first time watching a Vikings game live and making a trip like that so he was legit upset lol. I on the other hand couldn't have been happier.
