The Backup QB Position

Insert wildcat with DWill or Stewart if our backup gets hurt for the rest of the game. Then look for another QB after the game. Hell, when Anderson was in this year all he did was hand off...We don't need 3 QBs.

We have another QB on the roster who also won two consecutive national championships.

I can't even type that with a straight face.

If David Garrard is willing to take backup money would you want to see him in a Panthers uniform? He is a proven commodity, great locker room guy, been around long enough to offer some leadership and help Cam develop.

As to the bolded part above, I've seen very mixed reports about Garrard. It might be wise to look elsewhere.

I think Derek Anderson could handle it. Sure he's not that mobile but Cam plays the role of a pocket passer and he does it much better than his similar counterparts in Campbell, Young, or Vick. I think we would just start calling more passing/no run option plays. We'd probably run more drag routes and checkdowns. I don't think it would be a problem.

Nah, he's a free agent. Rather have RW16 than Johnson though.

I find it ironic how people on this board (not you specifically, Stumpy) are so high on Russell Wilson but then are so quick to call the *Saints' know-nothing QB a midget. Not to defend Breesus, just pointing out the contradiction.

I'd take Johnson over RW as even if he's less accurate, he's closer to Cam's height. You can't coach a player to be taller.

i do think hanging onto armanti edwards makes sense if only for the fact that he's a backup quarterback, wide receiver, KR/PR all in one roster spot and he's an option to run the wildcat.

his versatility, if nothing else, may keep him on the roster.

One of the reasons you have a third quarterback is to run the scout team against the starters in practice. You need the 2nd quarterback to actually take somefirst teamreps during the week in case he has to come into the game. If you use Edwards to run the scout team he gets no practice at his regular position which is receiver.

    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
