Delhomme has new deal

What upsets me is the fact that this new contract ensures him to be the starter for the foreseeable (sp?) future....

A team giving a player this kind of deal isn't actively search for competition for this player, they are searching for the replacement. That said, I think a good healthy competition makes both parties involved better.

Cowboys haven't won a playoff game since the Panthers have existed...

I remember one that they lost though :D :D

From wiki answers...

The Cowboys last Super Bowl victory was January 28, 1996 in Super Bowl XXX when they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-17.

I think that was the last post season win they have had.

That's false. I hate the Cowboys, but I'm just saying...

I hate going to Wiki for answers, but the NFL has Dallas beating Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl of '96, that's just not true. I'm wrong too, they did beat the Vikings on Jan. 12, 1996, last playoff game they have won. They lost to us on Jan. 22,1996 by a score of 26-17 with Micheal Irving being injured in the first series and Deon Sanders put out toward the end, (he couldn't even go home with the team with a fractured eye socket). I KNOW this because I was there. We lost to Green Bay the next week in the frozen tundra of the NFC Championship Game 30-13. So if we played Green Bay in the NFCCG and New England defeated Jacksonville 20-6 in the AFCCG, how could Dallas win the Super Bowl? I know for a fact we were in the NFCCG and Jacksonville was in the AFCCG, that's not even open for discussion.

So yes, I stand corrected that they did win one playoff game since we came into the league...

I'm sorry, I wont acknowledge another thing you say. How bout I get you one of those "Mean people suck" bumper stickers.

No just that personal attacks are not allowed. We let it go if it once but you have been calling people names all through this thread.

Haven't had time nor the patience to read the whole thread but this is hardly a cap saving move. You just gave JAKE DELHOMME 20 million GUARENTEE'D....5 years 20 million with 6 million guarentee'd would be a more suitable contract. No matter how incentive based the contract is or backloaded 20 million guarentee'd is still way too much for Jake and you guys will be stuck with him for quite awhile unless taking a large cap hit for cutting him. Hes better served in the backup role and you guys are going to have one incredibly expensive backup QB.

He is a average QB that shouldnt be starting.

ah hem

So only QBs above average can start? Just how many above average QBs are there. Surely if he is average, that means he is average in coordination with the QBs in the league and thus the mean of all starting Qbs? So therefore if he is the average of all the QBs in the league, then shouldn't he be starting?

You already have one of those stickers? I don't recall calling names but sense you are very sensitive, I take your word for it.

PS, I did not just call you a name.

Not insensitive but just pointing out. We can disagree til we are blue in the face and I wont care.

not near as expensive is let's say Alex Smith, Matt Leinart, Vince Young or any of the other first round busts. IT IS a cap saving move THIS YEAR considering the Peppers situation which may not get resolved this season. IF you knew the Panthers situation, we had less than 3 mil in cap room going to the draft. Jake was due to make 11 mil this year, let's say for arguement sake he makes 8 mil this year(which is probably more than actuality), that just doubled cap space. Peppers wont be making 17 mil next year hopefully, so that is plenty of room to operate in the future.

    • I would say the extremes from both camps in these conversations have to do with the blurring of the fact Bryce is a first overall pick and the expectations for that draft slot fair or not far exceed just being a top 20-25 starter amongst your peers. Regardless. All logical Panthers fans want him to be the answer.
    • The offseason is always when hope springs eternal. If you look past that, you can see a very bad roster with a lot more questions than definitive answers. Let's hope we get a lot of those right, because I think we are a lot closer to another impatient Tepper reset than we probably think.
    • These arguments are getting more and more disingenuous from both the pro and anti Bryce crowd. Bryce looked very good for stretches down the final 8 games. He finally showed glimpses of the guy that was projected as a top QB pick in the draft. Bryce also didn't look like a top 10 NFL QB.  I think we are so far removed from Prime Cam that we forget what an elite QB looks like. I could tell that when people were losing their minds and simping for Sam Darnold. This season needs to finally showcase Bryce as a franchise talent. If that doesn't happen, it's time to pivot. There are very few recent examples of QB's struggling or being a mixed bag through the first three seasons of starting and then suddenly becoming frachise caliber players.
