Why WE WONT draft a QB tomorrow....

With the NFPU (NFL Players Union) and the league owners not having a deal right now (CBA) the league is set to be uncapped next season if a deal can not be reached by next April.

With that said, Goodell has already spoken out against the Rookie cost in the draft and even today he said that they are working a deal to get the money to the vets who deserve it.

I have no reason to think they wont reach a deal by next April, and I am all but certain it the new CBA will include a structured Rookie Cap. (Even the current committy and players agree this needs to be done)

With a QB draft class deep next season, and a Rookie Cap in place the Panthers will be able to get a Great QB without having to spend 50 million dollars.

So will other teams too though, which will only make the draft even more cut throat and FUN for us :D

Considering Fox and Co. (and other NFL teams) are scared of the risk, starting next draft the risk will be almost worth the price ;)

I think we give Moore another year of TC and preseason to show what he's got. If he works out for us, that's best case scenario because we save our draft picks for other needs. Plus the 2010 QBs class looks much better, and we have very few draft picks this year.

Teams that need to draft a QB in round 1 have a very low sucess rate if they start off the bat. Peyton Manning was 3-13 his first year, Troy Aikman was 1-15.Most qbs that stink year one stay stinking.I beleive we need to draft a qb next year, not this year and one that fits our system. A qb that can sit for two years and learn the NFL....

Good thing half the league think Pat White is a WR. But on point the new NFLPA chief was on the radio today and he says he thinks a deal will be done but as far as rookie caps that is up to the teams and agents. So in other words dont count on the NFLPA to agree to it.

But I can still see the Panthers picking a QB in the Draft wont say it will be tomorrow but scpanther22 pointed out we need a cap arm and with both McCown and Moore being FA's next offseason they my bring one in to compete for 3rd string.

    • 100%. He's a serviceable starter but not a shut down CB by any means. Not too bad for $5.25M /year.
    • Crap on a cracker! I didn't see that from the original video. That's nasty.
    • It is like he just can’t be bothered with that stuff.    But seriously, rebuilding your entire physical operating procedure is so difficult that very few can do it. You have to get it in you so deep that you don’t think about it. Most people fall back to their comfort zone at the biggest moments. Because it worked for them up until ‘now’ and they don’t have to think about it.  You would think people would know this but here we are.  His so obviously wack unorthodox mechanics screamed to me that a rebuild would be necessary and that the single biggest reason I was so opposed to taking him.  It plays out all the time. He is in and out of what Canales tried to train him to do. That’s what the emphasis on 1 2 3 plant throw was about last offseason, as much as it was about getting the ball out quicker. But it is all connected.  You just can’t get the ball out that fast with his old routine, slows you down.
