Panthers Are Listening To Offer For J-Stew

FWIW arian foster has been the best RB in the league and got less guaranteed money than DWill

Peterson is the face of that franchise

CJ was coming off one of the best seasons for a RB in history and was holding out until he got a deal

so those are your 3 exceptions for the entire league over the last two years. yes, the position has been devalued as is pretty obvious to everyone. if you haven't figured it out by now you probably won't ever and i'm not going to bother to try to convince you, have fun with your little delusion.

Panthers said after Tolbert was signed "We are not calling anyone trying to trade anybody." That doesnt say they wont listen to offers. I tried to find the thread were this was discussed but I couldnt..

Itd be rather unprofessional if they didnt listen. Of course they will listen to all offers, might even consider a few, and if its real good they will probably take it. But its going to have to be real good.

So you don't think MJD, McCoy, Forte, etc. will eventually get huge deals? Fred Jackson is likely to get a big deal as well. I forgot to mention Charles as well who was extended last year.

Delusion? Facts support it. If the position wasn't as important as you are making it out to be, then teams wouldn't be throwing money at HBs like they do. They are given big contracts just as often as other positions are. So please explain to me how you know NFL teams don't view the position highly. RBs are still drafted in the top ten and again, don't mention the past. Ingram fell because he wasn't that good and in '09, Spiller went in the top ten and Matthews nearly went top 10 in '10. Richardson will likely go in the top seven. McFadden went top five. Peterson went top five. The position is still viewed highly by NFL teams. Just because hacks on television say it doesn't mean it's true. Those same guys also said a certain quarterback wouldn't succeed because he had no work ethic and a fake smile.

Whether you believe the position to be important nowadays is a different story. That's your opinion. But teams still hold the position in high regard.

ok apparently mage is a complete idiot so i'm just going to put him on ignore

I'm not a grammar Nazi but if you're going to call someone an idiot, at least type up sentences that make it seem like you have something more than a fifth grade education.

All Im gonna say is, trading Stewart would be horrible for this team. He is the best RB on the team, he is young and will thrive as a lead back in this league.

How are they going to resign him? He's declined to talk about an extension with the Panther's and will want as much or more money then Williams got and the Panther's are going to be over the cap next season. (It's expected to remain flat for the most part up till the new ESPN deal kicks in for the 2014 season.)

The team can't cut Williams till 2014 at the earliest because of his signing bonus, there aren't a whole lot of cut possibilities either, Smith will need a new contract, so will Otah and a few defensive players as well.

I understand all that. Just saying if we trade this guy, its terrible for the team. I love DWill but he should have been the one to go. Stewart is younger and to me the better overall RB. Will be a sad day if Stewart gets traded.

Now I don't have any inside information, but what I think happened is the team went to Stewart about signing long term and he declined, so the team then went and offered Williams the deal they did. The team will try again once the upcoming season is over and offer him similar money to what they gave Williams, just back loaded to take advantage of the cap increase in 2014. I still think he ends up signing elsewhere for more money then Williams got though.

Peppers didn't give us an opportunity to trade him because he refused to sign the tender until after the deadline to trade tagged players.

But, they were negotiating with him for almost a year before they used the 1st franchise tag and they offered him a contract that would have made him the highest paid defensive player in the NFL, but Peppers turned it down. So, my point was Hurney knew good and well Peppers didn't want to remain here. So, instead of waiting until you must franchise a player and then the team looses all the leverage, plan ahead, and trade that player, so at least you have something, instead of getting nothing.

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
