Panthers Apparently "love" Luke Kuechly

Kuechly is weird. He's not a hitter, not very aggressive and has a lot of mop up plays. He does have elite instincts and is really really smart with a good work ethic. The Anti-Burfict.

Anyways, I don't see the value where we pick. Trading back? Sure. At #9? Ehhhh... There's a dearth of first round LB talent this year and Kuechly is benefiting greatly from it. There's a TON of talented guys outside of the first we could grab.

I mean, if you were the Patriots, would you grab Mayo top ten again?

I do think it's sort of funny that a lot of the "combine means nothing, look at the tape" guys reverse field when it comes to Kuechly. Pre-combine, watching his games (not film, I don't have film and neither do you) he doesn't look super athletic, doesn't look like a 4.5 guy.. he looks like a classic MLB who makes a lot of tackles and doesn't do much else well. Then he blows up at the combine and now he's a freak-cyborg who can play any LB position, blitz like a pro, cover any TE, etc.

I would not go that far with what people are saying about him on the board, but people do tend to fall in love with football players. Hes a football player and would be blue chip depth at MLB if Beason is ready to play. If not, he has a chance to compete for any of the 3 spots, and that makes the Panthers a better football team.

Curry and Luke play two different positions and were asked to do certain things.... I still would pull the trigger for Curry on a 6th round pick like the Raiders did last year. Great move.

Plus Seattle asked him to cover too much....he needed to be playing the run and blitzing.

If we drafted a MLB at 9 we would have roughly 32 million guaranteed to that position over the next couple of years....hahahahahha

Luke wouldn't backup Beason. Both would be on the field of healthy.

Luke is already better than Beason, Fuzz. Get it together

Luke could be better than a 75% Beason.

What is funny is thinking Davis will be a starter this year and Beason is coming back in 2012 being the same guy he was.

This is what the top 4 LB's on this team would look like if we add Kuechly.

Luke: 4 yrs 12 million, 7 guaranteed.

Beason: 5 yrs 50 mil, 25 guaranteed

Anderson: 5 years 22 mil, 8.5 guaranteed

Davis: 5 years 36.5 mil, 7 guaranteed.

47.5 million guaranteed starting July of last season, and lasting 4 more years, not counting salaries, and bonuses built into the contracts which could double that figure.

If we draft Kuechly he can play any of the three positions and wil cost roughly 3 million a year. Who would have predicted that Beason would go down with a career threatening injury after being healthy. If it makes you feel better consiider Luke, Davis's replacement.

Looks obvious that the problem in retrospect was paying Beason so much when he was on IR last yar and will likely need this year to get back to speed. That has nothing to do with whether we should bring in Kuechly. With the new slotted system, bringing in a second rounder might cost you 1 1/2 milion per year intead of 3 for the number 9 spot. I doubt the 1 1/2 million is a reason to settle for a role player instead of a plug and play guy when Davis goes down.

    • It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ .   * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them.    Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help. Heres a good video, if you can stand coked up pat and mask look-a-like AJ
    • I don't know. CMC is like others and may have lip serviced that line of " I had no plan or wanted to leave Carolina" I think he even said he bought a house too and wanted this to be home.   Here's what I heard- In a way Panthers org gave him a test and he didn't "fight" back. They approached CMC and told him they wanted to put him on IR since the "season" was over or out of playoff reach. CMC didn't fight it one lick and agreed. They secretly wanted him to kept playing or want to, but there was no kickback. I honestly don't know if its real or not, 5th hand information type deal doing on. Yes he had bruises and pains, but was able to play...... but went along with Panthers staff. Odd to be playing games with star players, but whatever....   Plus the staff doctors found out about his tendinitis and there was nothing to fix it. Even with him missing time, it was the best move to trade him before he got inflamed constantly.    Lastly, its mostly time a combo of stuff, Fitterererere did not sign him to be the highest paid RB. That was classic Marty "give me a" herniay doing. GMs have different values on roster spots and rumor was Fitterererer was one that didn't want to pay RBs. For all his faults, he's right about that......
    • I think google is confusing signing bonus with guaranteed money. If you get a guarantee of say $10 million, it doesn’t matter if the signing bonus is $5 or $8 million, it’s the $10 million number that affects the cap, as the signing bonus is always just a portion of the guaranteed money anyways. And again, I’ll admit I’m not 100% sure about it, but I’m pretty sure it is the case.
