Elliot Harrison Ranks Nfl Coaches - Rivera At #24

Rivera ranked at number twenty-four behind Jason Garrett and in front of Mike Mularky.

24. Ron Rivera, Carolina Panthers

The Panthers showed flashes last season, and seemed to have nowhere to go but up. Late game failures and miscues were the tell tale signs of a young football team, not necessarily a coach in over his head. That said, Rivera still has much to prove.

The rest of the rankings

Rivera made a handful of questionable rookie coaching decisions but he also fell victim, in these rankings at least, to a defense unable to close out games. If he can turn it around this year and get to the playoffs I'd imagine he'll be closer to top ten this time next season. (John Fox, by the way, is ranked number eight for his adaptability. )

Maybe for his one season at Denver, but he never showed much adaptability in Carolina

i think the rankings were spot on overall.

At least Riviera was able to beat one coach that isn't new this year, Frazier! So basically 2nd to last of returning coaches.

joe vitt is ranked 32 and payton didn't make the list.

This year he can look forward to beating your new coach and whoever your interim, interim new coach is.

You mean of the list of 32 2012 coaches, of which Payton is not even one, he didn't make the list! What outrage!

Payton was #1 in 2009, #2 in 2010, and tied for #1 in 2011. If Payton was in the list, Riviera would be 25 instead of 24, so be happy,

And the stupid bastard blew it all for the sake of having a dirty, yet piss poor defense.

Pat, you even look annoying.

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
