Jon Beason Says Poe Would "shore Up Position"

Cox would play the 3-tech for us, and no other position. Even as an UT he's going to struggle against the run in the NFL imo. Cox doesn't have elite speed and quickness, his bull rush almost always stalls long before he can even remotely pressure the QB. He's not that powerful, he gets stood up a lot. I think he might be a bust. Not interested.

Worthy is much better than Cox. He is flat out more powerful, he can take on double teams and hold his ground. Cox can't. Worthy's burst off the line blows Cox away. The reason Worthy isn't a top 10 pick is because he can't run out in the open and chase a QB down, he's too slow. Cox can run out in the open and give a decent chase. Worthy could play the 3-tech and flush the QB, but not chase him down. Or we could put him at the 1-tech, and he'll anchor down and take on a double team. Cox can only play 3-tech, and any other postion would be a disaster for us.

This bull poo about Cox not being good vs the run needs to stop. He is rated above avg. Against the run on Mcshay's breakdown.

Dude also stood up well against the double team. 3 tech might be his best spot but all scouts agree he has the ability to play all line positions in any scheme.

He was just on ESPN. He also said he thinks Cam can be the best QB ever.

No, that's not exactly what Beason said about Poe. He was asked who he thinks the team should take, but didn't really give an answer. Then they asked him what he would like, and he said a big space eater in front of him, like Poe, that would allow him to make plays. But he didn't just come up with Poe off the top of his head, right before asking the question, they mentioned that Kiper had the Panthers taking Poe with their pick. So it's just as likely that he only mentioned Poe because his name was fresh on his mind as much as him thinking he would be the ideal pick.

Bottom line, I woudn't read too much into these comments. Beason just wants someone that will free him up to make plays (and NOT a LB). I don't think he cares if it's Poe, Cox, Brockers, or one of the guys we already have.

Look I know you are his biggest fan but you get more credibility being at least somewhat objective. All scouts don't agree he can play the nose, lets be serious.

Run defense: Good size and power, though Cox struggles with leverage, at times. Can be blown off the ball when double-teamed as he currently lacks prototypical width and thickness in his lower body for an interior defender.

WEAKNESSES

Cox allows himself to get completely washed away when faced with a double team, a symptom of his rawness. He tries to rely too much on his athleticism when working against the run; he doesn't think to set an anchor and remain a presence and gap-filler within the scheme he plays in. Cox could be a high-risk, high-reward player as a rookie.

These were the first 2 random ones I came across when I googled his draft analysis.

Seriously?????

And your point is?

I was not responding to a comment saying we don't have a young guy who can become 1 of our core guys. It was in response to a post that said we have smaller guys.

If you want to have that conversation then we can have it, but that is not what I was commenting on.

that's the conversation that should be happening, aa I'm positive that coversation has already started within the Panthers front office.

"Beason would never point at his fellow linebackers"

I disagree completely.

Beasom would have no problems addressing the linebackers. That's part of what makea Beason such a great leader.

Regardless whom is playing linebacker for the Pamtbers, they will benefit from a big dt up front, and improved trench play in general.
