Novelist Nicholas Sparks is putting on a Family Weekend in New Bern this weekend, with the proceeds from the many events to go to charity. Among those attending will be American Idol girl Kelly Pickler, and Saints QB Drew Brees. Give the man points for bravery, for venturing into the heart of Panther country! Just a heads up, because the money raised will be going to fund some good stuff.

I only mean int he sense that it's deep in Carolina. And you're right, I generally agree that New Bern isn't exactly Murderer's Row...although I can think of a couple of places it would probably be a good idea for Breezy Boy to stay away from! I also agree that it's pretty cool that he's willing to come do the event. I wonder how it came about?

Tom Benson was quoted today on the Drew Brees situation... "Brees will be in next week, after he's done in NC helping out his good buddy Nicholas Sparks, and we're very close to a deal with him..." When asked about Benson's "next week" proclamation from last week, Benson said, "that's what I meant... next week."

What a great opportunity for somebody to show up and talk smack about his lying ways.

I'm thinking of some questions I'm going to show up and ask:

"Hey Drew, why is Tom Benson such a cheap bastard?"

"Does it bother you that he spent 338 million dollars to buy an NBA franchise while he's low balling you?"

"Hey Drew, you've got something on your face... oh wait, nevermind".

"Hey Drew, can you read? I ask because there are 500 pages of evidence about the bounty scandal but you say you still need proof."

"How long does it take for that smell in New Orleans to get our of your clothes?"

      No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.

      It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
