Directv Lowers Sunday Ticket To $199.95

April 19 (Bloomberg) -- DirecTV, trying to broaden its audience, is cutting the price of its Sunday football package by about 40 percent for existing customers and offering it free to new customers for a year.

The largest U.S. satellite-TV provider said today it is dropping the price for the NFL Sunday Ticket package, which gives users access to all regular season National Football League out-of-market broadcasts, to $199.95 from about $325. Customers that also want access to the games on mobile devices will pay $299.95.

Those who want NFL Sunday Ticket Max (HD + RedZone) will have to pay $299, which is $100 more than new price

I wish they could just offer RedZone like Dish does (of course Dish doesn't have Sunday Ticket...)...DirecTV would make a killing. Maybe they feel that would cut into their Sunday Ticket sales.

I haven't paid for the Ticket the last 3 years... Can't beat free, you just gotta keep calling until you get the right rep on the phone. Just a friendly tip!

That's what I've done the past 5yrs. I've had DTV for about 8yrs. I just call them up and ask for the retention dept, telling them what deal can I get for being a longtime customer. If they throw it in for new customers they damn well better throw it in for long time users.

Hm, sounds like those with hd service are getting screwed. Typically I can get super fan for 185. Wonder if I'll still be able to now that the standard def people are getting a better price right away.

Thats how it was 3 years ago.. $200 for the ticket and another $100 if you wanted the HD & SuperFan pkge. I have called them & had the cost lowered, not dropped. Went from 6 payments of $53 to 6 @ $33, Im good with that... Guess they figured if they had to lower the price anyway, make the customer go back to deciding what we want to pay for...

Had to call DirecTV for a different issue this past Tuesday. The rep was telling me they will have a new software feature that will allow you to split the screen and watch 4 games of your choosing, as opposed to the 8 very small games on the game mix that you have no control over...

They also have a new receiver that can record up to 5 shows at once...

Dude... Please save yourself the heart ache and do not pay at all for it.

Call themand tell them you've been a customer for (x amount of years) ask them why a brand new customer would get the best package for free when you've referred several friends to switch over.

If they still won't budge, just tell that that you might as well cancel... Tell them that once they come and pick up the equipment, that as soon as they leave you'll have your wife call and become "a new customer" anyways.

If they still don't budge, and I doubt they won't... Pull the trigger and cancel, then do as I said. You'll get upgrades on all your recievers anyways as a new* customer.

Do what u want, but I'd definitely play it this way.

..and you did tell me that last year too TCF... I just didnt push the issue after I took the reduced rate. I wont accept it this season, Im pushing for free...

Alot of my issue is I have 2 rec'v'rs at my Mom's house that are on my account. It costs me $15/month for her to get all the TV I do, gotta look out for my Mom. Not tryin to raise any flags and have them look at my account any more than necessary...

The key is to ask for the retention dept when DTV first answers the call. Don't bother with the 1st line call takers, they are limited to what they can offer. Each call taker has a limited amount of free stuff they can offer and some are stingy with their allotment. Their freebies reset on Sunday, so its better to call then because they will run out as the week goes on. They may start by offering a discount but just say that's not good enough for a longtime user. You don't have to pay.

You still have to have a DirecTV service account to get Sunday Ticket. I'm perfectly happy to pay for Sunday Ticket, but I'm not going to pay the extra $1200 for a years worth of pooty TV just for the right to get it. NHL Center Ice figured it out. Until the NFL follows suit, I'm watching the Sweedish feed online.

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
