That had me so puzzled during the draft. I was just saying, uhmmmm adrian peterson? Did the browns really think they might draft trent richardson?

they were worried TB would possibly trade up for Richardson I guess

I thought it was a horrible move but I can't decide if which of their 1st round picks was worse

giving up 3 picks to move up one spot and take a RB #3 overall.... or taking a QB that'll be 29 this season and still needs time to develop with their other 1st

It weird. I love Richardson and i think he will be a stud for the Browns but still i wouldn't have made that trade.

the way the browns see it they got their franchise RB and franchise QB in one hour on Thursday night.

the tape on that QB is outstanding and they can still get two contracts out of him even at 28.

They desperately needed Trent Richardson and there were multiple teams looking to move ahead of them.

Not even close. They traded some late round pics to ensure they could get their guy. They were obviously concerned about someone leapfrogging them. The trade offer that the Vikings accepted from them tells me that those concerns weren't too legitimate.

It's a 4th 5th and 7th round pick.... to ensure you get a RB who is a franhise RB at a postion of need and the best to come out since Andrian Peterson.... So who cares about those 3rd day picks....

I think people sometime get too attached to those late round picks...

Yeah, as others have said, this was a pick to make 100% sure that no one would trade with Minny. I bet the Vikings were on the phone with Cleveland saying "We have multiple trade partners, we are going to give you a chance to move up"

But if I'm Cleveland, I draft Tannehill at 4 or trade down to take him and wait until 22 and get either take David Wilson or Doug Martin, or trade down to take Wilson or Martin, just because it's a QB driven league and Colt McCoy sucks.

I think quite the opposite.

They desperately wanted Richardson and they knew that TB (especially) would try to jump them by trading to Minny. The trade protected them from the Vikings trading the pick to someone else...not from the Vikings taking Richardson.

Taken that way it was actually a very good trade.
