We Have No Pass-Rush Or Secondary

how is that? our #1 need was QB

most ppl thought Cam was NOT BPA

Most people are uninformed due to not being a paid scout and/or GM for the Panthers.

The biggest need was DT, evidenced by drafting two of them in the 3rd last year. And btw that was two picks drafted based on need. How'd those pick turn out in your opinion? I'm still hopeful for those two but its another case of where Hurney drafted based on draft and theirs a good chance it comes back to but them in the ass.

so you're saying that last year we needed a DT worse than we needed a QB?

COME ON MAN!!

lol .. you must be joking

remember our record with our former QB's?

I assure you our "worse record in the league" was not due to lack of DT talent

come on now .. stop playin'

The Panthers have many needs, and can't address all of them in the draft. D-line, LB, CB, WR, and O-line are all needs for this team, and the Panthers addressed two of them so far.

LB was a major need.....due to injury of Thomas Davis. Great guy & player when healthy, but no way they can rely on him to be an every down player. And outside of Davis, Beason, and Anderson, there are no other LB starters on this team.

O-line = I guess many forgot the Panthers released Wharton. Wharton was a good LG for this team for many years. They need a quality replacement....and this Silatolu guy is slated to play LG. But I think the Panthers are looking for him to be LT after Gross is done as that is the position he played in college. And Gross will be 32 in July.

Everyone knows the Panthers need to upgrade the d-line, and need a better pass rush, but they aren't done yet. And I'm assuming the d-line players available at 9 & 40 were not the right fit or talent to fill the need.

I think you are forgetting the mentality of this team before Newton. Fox and Hurney didn't believe in drafting a QB in the first round. Good or bad they had their QB in Clausen from the previous draft. DT was absolutely bare. Rivera walked in with no DT. He held off judgement on Clausen due to the situation with Fox. It was very possible they went with the biggest need at that time which would have been DT based on Hurneys history and stated philosophy.

I thought they would draft defense sign defense and trade for defense and hope a Clausen lead offense wouldn't lose the defense games ala Fox ball. Instead they drafted the BPA in Newton traded for and signed two top end TEs and brought back Hangartner for the Oline. The biggest needs for the defensive minded Panthers were on the defensive side of the ball.

Cam Newton was EASILY the best player in college football. Once it was confirmed by Carolina he could translate well in their deep evaluation of him.....Cam arguably was BPA.

and last year proved Carolina was correct and was BPA

Not being factors in FA and poor cap management have put us in the spot we are in. Using the draft to replace people we lost yet not getting any better. Yes we are back to where we were last year but no further.

Everyone blamed Fox but this is what he had to put up with. You can't build at SB team with RBs, LBs, and Oline in every freaking draft.

Do you follow his team at all? WE have 3 defensive tackles coming back after season ending injuries. WE aslo have a solid DB we drafted last year. It is quite apparent that Hurney and Rivera think our talent returning is as good as anything in the draft this year. Put a sucky thing on the end of your beer and enjoy the ride. 2012 is going to be a great year.

    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
