To Many Needs And Not Enough Picks

I know we we addressed some needs but we have only 2 real picks to add as starters .I have know way of telling how Rivera has Hogan graded but think it would be nice if he could explain his rational in a press conference The cb position is the only one that has me really worried..

I think he plans on using LBs for the zone blitz but it would be nice hearing it from him.

With guys coming off injuries(Hogan, Beason, Edwards, Davis), the additions of Reggie Smith, Nakumura, and Onatulu, Fua and McClain having a year under their belts, the addition of Kuechly, and a full offseason...Our defense will be MUCH improved. Just think about the lineup we had in there at the end of the season.

...and what is so different from this draft and any other Hurney draft? There are needs from one season to the next and they are never addressed thru the Hurney draft.

Has the Hurney draft philosophy not crept into anyone's mind when trying to understand why the Carolina Panthers are nowhere close to being an upper echelon NFL team? Has no one ever wondered why this team cannot win 9-10 games a year consistently over a 6-8 year period like the best teams in the league do?

There's still the possibility of Mike Jenkins...Samuel woulda been way too expensive. I still don't understand how the Falcons can afford him. They were at about $1.5mil under the cap before the trade from what I read. Samuel took a paycut, but he's still earning $3.875 against the cap this year. I read one of their Guards restructured so his cap figure went from $2.5mil to $0.7mil but by my math that still puts them about a half mil over the cap. I guess there's some rounding up or down that happened that makes up the difference, but they've got to be like a penny under if at all.

Well you cant say he never drafts to fill a need that just makes you sound missinformed. What you mean is he never drafts who you want him to draft. Go look at other teams forums, and you will see the same type of things there as you are saying here. No one is perfect so there will be some draft misses, but we have alot of talent on our team that we drafted. If you dont like any of the draft picks hurney has ever made, then why do you like the panthers?

I understand the injury thing but just cause we get these players back does not mean others want get hurt. We are totally screwed if Gamble or CJ goes down because of the path that Hurney has taken.

Yea, I typed "he woulda been way too expensive" before I went and looked up the actual numbers of his contract. For some reason I had it in my head his cap number went from $10mil down to $7mil. I think I read that somewhere and thought "how the fug can the Falcons afford that?!" Then I went to do find out his exact numbers and didn't think to change what I typed before.

Sure, we could have afforded the $3.8mil, but Samuel is old. I'm not saying I would have objected if we got him, but I don't object to not getting him. It'd be a super short term investment. Jenkins is still young, this year will be the last of his rookie contract. The reasons not to get him - injury concern, will we be able to resign him after his rookie contract is up? - are legitimate, but if they'd accept a 5th or later I'd pull the trigger. At the very least he's a thousand times better than Capt and more experienced than Hogan or Butler.
