Charles Johnson's Status For Ota's/minicamp Is "uncertain"

Are people STILL calling him out on his back injury? I 100% guarantee you the coaching staff probably kept him out because it was pointless. Smith had as minor injury as could be at the end of the 2010 season and we kept him out the last game. There is no point in risking it.

Charles Johnson has minor knee surgery

Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Friday, general manager Marty Hurney said.

Johnson recently developed swelling around the knee, and the team's medical staff decided to schedule what Hurney called a “minor clean-out.”

On his Twitter feed Friday, Johnson posted: “My surgery went good! Thanks to everyone for your blessing.”

Johnson's status for OTAs, which begin May 22, is uncertain. But he is expected to be ready for the start of training camp in July.

Johnson, who signed a six-year, $72 million contract last summer, battled a lower back injury throughout the 2011 season, when he finished with nine sacks.

Johnson cut his hand at a charity event this offseason. Johnson received stitches in his hand, but did not require surgery, according to Panthers coach Ron Rivera.

Why wait till now to undergo the procedures? Why not do it in January so he could be in tip top shape for TC

Probably because it's a recent issue, I highly doubt that he's been sitting all winter with a swollen fluid filled knee. Some of you guys just don't think do you? This thread went full retard on the first page and hasn't stopped.

That is an assumption by you, all it stated in the article, and thus all that is confirmed, is the fact that he had the procedures right before OTAs and I presented the question why now instead of earlier, I didn't make any claims.

Sit the fu*k down, stop trying to act smarter than everyone else.

I mean seriously, why would you assume that he would just sit around with a swollen knee for MONTHS and do nothing about it until a few weeks before OTA's? Why would that be the assumption that you make? It's just blatant stupidity in my opinion.

    • Smith-Wade for me. He has the path to some decent hefty snaps in Evero’s scheme. He held his own last year and improved as he continued to get snaps— If he makes some strides, could be a very capable nickel.  I agree with Sanders. Bryce had some trust in him that final Falcons game post crazy head-stand.  Bryce looked for him a lot that final game and made some critical catches to get us the W. Seems he’s put in major work so I’m hopeful about him.  Wallace will have an offseason under his belt. I like him a lot, was higher graded than most remember in his draft (I.e Brugler had him LB3/70 overall) but he isn’t as cerebral of an LB as we’re used to. I think he could thrive if we get D captain/film-junky type next to him— because right now that’s Jewell.  Still a bit cautious but love the talent. Rozeboom may snag some playing time from him if he’s still working out the kinks.
    • Didnt Canales already say starters are playing in the pre season? either way extra reps dont hurt but im not one of those people that think playing in the pre season would have saved Bryce from an awful start.
