If Your Wife Wants To Take Over Taking Care Of The Lawn, Would You Let Her

Not an issue in our house. Had a year round yard service and house cleaning service for the last 10 years.

Wife has it great....no housework or yard work. However, she does make up for it by having to put up with me.

Those bushes, plants, flowers, and trees are only going to get in the way and make it harder to mow. I doubt she will actually mow the lawn and I bet she only wants to add more crap that you have to mow around.

Tablescaping? Gross. But then again, why not let her decorate a formal dining room? I consider it hers to show off. But our 10 year old table that we have positioned so we can watch TV? No way. Napkins and salt and pepper shakers. Nothing else needed.

As far as yard work... that depends. My wife is a stay at home mom. Kids take all her time so she can't get to the gym anymore. She sees 3 acres with a push mower as exercise. More power to her. But that usually means I'm stuck with dishes.

Everything in and out of our house is my domain even the garage and yard. He doesn't care unless it looks like poo. He does take care of the fertilizing but I do all the weed & pest control, mowing and landscaping. The only thing in this house that is truly his domain and I don't touch is the couch he sits on, the family room TV, his side of the bed and night stand, his sink in the bathroom, one bathroom drawer, and 1/3 of the bedroom closet, He goes to work, takes out the trash, checks the mail and takes care of finances. I rarely ask him to do anything because he works his ass off and I expect him to not have to work when he comes home.

He is lucky to have you.

By pretending to be interested, your wife not only gets you to mow the lawn, but to do it enthusiastically and defensively. She wins. My dog does the same thing when I pick up one of her toys, she suddenly gets interested in it.

Same thing with kids.

a toy stays in the closet for a month and gets ignored completely. kid finds it and plays with it. other kid comes over, finds it too, plays with it, suddenly they are fighting over a toy that was ignored for a month.

Fella is gettin' worked.

Inside, outside, and all around.

Keep holding the line though bro, that static defensive/reactive thing always works out. ;)

True story...

Wife was cutting grass (both riding and push), edging, planting flowers in her window boxes, and watering the landscaping yesterday while I watched a movie marathon (Iron Man 1 & 2, Hulk, Thor) leading up to seeing the Avengers tonight.

I was very happy to let her do it.

Ok, so the weekend pased by and as I thought there was a massive argument about the lawn and control of it. We are now actually on day two of not speaking. At any rate, I held the line and cut the grass myself, and effectively booted her out of the yard. I gotta tell ya though the fallout from the argument has been bad, first she made me take myself to the airport this morning, which sucked, and second I had to eat at McDonalds yesterday (Chick fi-a is not open on Sun. grrrrr.). For all you members of Ma'am, I am not going to give in one inch, we have to have some place in our house we call ours. I am traveling the entire week so who knows what to expect when I get back of Friday, but here is one thing I do know, my yard will be my yard......
