Sherrod Martin Might Not Be That Bad

CRA

Recommended Posts

Per PFF. He was ranked

2011 - rated as the 79th at his position out of 86

2010- rated as the 76th at his position out of 85

Oh, my bad....those are Godfrey's horrific numbers!!!!

Our safeties numbers shouldve been very inflated last year with all the shitty play in front of them. They shouldve been cleaning up left and right.

and Godfrey tackles well for a corner

Martin was actually pretty good coverage wise in 2010. Not sure how he fell off a cliff in 2011. But their is room to believe he can be a good starter. The problem is he is atrocious in the run defense.

Though I question the OP's argument tactic . You just made a post questoning their grading in the Florence thread ( and previous ones recentley ) And now your using it to back your argument?

I use PFF. I also know it isn't perfect. That is all. It has it's flaws as do all stats and was just mentioning that. You can look at other posts where I have used PFF and I often say when using them that I know they have there flaws.

They are still good. They just aren't gold. I think it especially important to remember you can't judge a player 100% by stats and that is what we were doing with the Bills kid as no one has followed his career.

i have never understood how people can claim martin is worse then godfrey, martin will occasionally wiff a tackle on a play sometimes but overall godfrey is worse in coverage and tackling....

He gambles more than Martin does. Martin is more about being indecisive and Godfrey is all about being too cocky imo.

MARTIN WAS NOT GOOD IN COVERAGE IN 2010!!!! ..and was even worse in 2011. Watch the games. I thought maybe Godfrey is worst than I thought so I watched all the games again. (Thank you NAS drive and direct tv :) ). Godfrey main problem is missing tackles he should make. As far as coverage he is so far ahead of Martin it's crazy. .. I repeat Sherrod Martin is ALWAYS OUT OF POSITION.

You guys are driving me crazy. Watch the games. Every big pass play over 25 yards is Martins fault. Every single one. Martin doesn't miss tackles.. he can't tackle.

Id like to see what this HaaaaRuki guy has. Hopefully he's developed good instincts and knows his limits. You would have to think he was watching film with Ed Reed, taking notes, and eh man he's japanese so you know he can take notes like a mufugger. . just sayin

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
