Sherrod Martin Might Not Be That Bad

CRA

Recommended Posts

MARTIN WAS NOT GOOD IN COVERAGE IN 2010!!!! ..and was even worse in 2011. Watch the games. I thought maybe Godfrey is worst than I thought so I watched all the games again. (Thank you NAS drive and direct tv :) ). Godfrey main problem is missing tackles he should make. As far as coverage he is so far ahead of Martin it's crazy. .. I repeat Sherrod Martin is ALWAYS OUT OF POSITION.

Godfrey is always out of position. That is why he is always

You guys are driving me crazy. Watch the games. Every big pass play over 25 yards is Martins fault. Every single one. Martin doesn't miss tackles.. he can't tackle.

Martin gave up a lot of big plays this year. No one would argue that.

Godfrey has spent a career in Carolina being out of position, being bad in coverage, and being a poor tackler. Big difference this year is Godfrey played SS and Martin FS. So when Godfrey fuged up there were defenders that could still make a play on the opponent. When Martin fuged up there was no one else to clean up his mistake. Godfrey made more mistakes, Martin made ones that were more memorable.

It's pretty difficult playing safety when you have to start 5 yards closer to the line of scrimmage because you know a running back is going to bust through a hole every other play...oh yeah and you have to cover Jimmy Graham, Gonzalez etc when the opposing QB has 8 seconds to pick you apart on every play.

It's easy to criticize the safety bc they are last line of defense but a secondary is only as good as their pass rush.

Godfrey has been consistantly bad every year though. Every year it is a different excuse.

Nether are Pro bowlers nor are they as bad as everyone thinks around here. Im waiting to make my assessment after this year. Both where CBs coming into the league and CB is not a thinking mans position. May just take longer for both of them.

Martin had a bad sophmore slump.

the entire secondary not named Gamble had a bad year this last season.

They all have talent.

I'm looking forward to the impact our new secondary coach is going to have. I expect improvement throughout the secondary.

Competition, and what should better coaching, is going to improve the teams pass defense.

I use PFF. I also know it isn't perfect. That is all. It has it's flaws as do all stats and was just mentioning that. You can look at other posts where I have used PFF and I often say when using them that I know they have there flaws.

They are still good. They just aren't gold. I think it especially important to remember you can't judge a player 100% by stats and that is what we were doing with the Bills kid as no one has followed his career.

That's fair, however when you make a thread and statement such as this and provide nothing but PFF as your argument, it's implys that they should be taken as fact. Though I do acknowledge you've been saying this far before PFF.

As far as Florence thread goes, their grading is a direct result of the them following every play of his career. While the specific number shouldn't be taken as gospel, the overall sence they provide of wether a player is good or not that season , is , pretty accurate. And thus a reasonable assumption can be made on their potential here.

That's pretty bad, bro

For Martin? How so? This wasn't a ranking on just the 32 starters. It was based on all players who had played at least 25 percent snaps. If you narrow it down to just starters (75 percent of snaps played) then his rankings jump to top eleven.

In hindsight I shouldve done it that way, and I'll edit my post to reflect that.

His rankings now jump to 3rd, 6th and 11th. That's good safety play.

Well I have been critical of Godfrey for years just watching him....was using these to just bring the issue backup.

As far as PFF. Yeah, he had a bad year. PFF also graded Captain I believe as better than Nnamdi this year.....Nnamdi poos all over Captain. There were reasons why Nnamdi grades bad in 2011 and that doesn't make him a bad CB. I don't think that year was par for for him is all

But I get you where you were coming from
