Not sure I like that one. When was the last time he was healthy? When was the last time we ran an offense where we would use him anyway?

He's had back issues, which can be a real bear for a football player. A lot would depend on his health. A lot.

But when healthy, he's a capable blocker and gives us the kind of threat at TE (especially in the red zone) that could make the offense seriously scary.

I'd bring both LaBoy and Hood into camp - there is enough upside to both that they are worth a look. We can't turn our nose down at Hood because we drafted a totally unproven player.

They also are said to like C J Wilson, so I don't know if they're even liking. If I recall correctly, Hood can do returns though. Given they're loading up on return options, it's possible.

Still, a lot is riding on the resolution to the Peppers issue. Given how many undrafted DTs they picked up, I'm wondering if they're even going to pursue DeWayne Robertson now.

I hope they go after Robertson. Anything to sure up the D-line and stop the freaking run.

Yeah, I agree if he would stay healthy, he would improve us in a scary way. Wesley Wall scary.

BUT, as I said, and you said, it depends on A LOT. Didn't he have a knee injury, and a leg/ankle injury that kept him sidelined that past 2 seasons? I knew back was also an issue, but if I remember correctly he has had those other 2 injuries nagging him as well.

I've always liked him, and love the way he plays....but you have to be able to stay on the field is all I'm saying.

we have the roster up to 85 (the max allowed) now so i don't see us doing a whole lot more....at least not until the first mini-camp is over.

after that we may see a little bit of activity but i wouldn't count on much unless we found some huge bargains.

LaBoy was actually the name I found more interesting in that story as he's an undersized defensive end with some talent and, from what I've seen, decent character. He's also had injury issues though and signed last year for what was likely an overinflated contract. Hard to say what would happen there.

I'm with you on this one. I am somewhat surprised to hear that he was let go. I think we should take a look at him, but he'll probably get signed by someone who has a greater need.

Got an answer. It was LaBoy, not Odom, that the Panthers pursued last offseason.

Wonder if they give him a call again.

(and say "can you wait till we figure out what to do with Julius?") :sosp:

:D I think they will call him if they believe Pep is going to be playing elsewhere. They could try and replace Brayton with him also. IMHO, LaBoy is better than Brayton (and a couple of years younger). I wonder how a move like that would affect the cap.

"Brayton vs. LaBoy" may deserve a thread.

I can see us bringing him in as long as there isn't a huge signing bonus or guaranteed money. If we cut him later we are still out the guaranteed money and it is a salary cap hit we can't afford. Most of the guys we are bringing are not getting any signing bonus but only a contract. That way if we cut them we are out nothing.

last I saw we had only 5 million in cap money to sign the draftees and any FAs.(includes 2.3 million already and 2.5 we saved with the Jake extension) Not exactly much to shop anywhere but the thrift shops. As long as peppers is here, we won't be bringing in any other big name folks.

I think Robertson's knees might mean his playing career is done.

His knees aren't that big of a deal, he's had the problem since forever ago and played through it while in college and his whole pro career. He says it doesn't effect what he can and can't do, and from the looks of his stats (2nd most sacks for a DT since he was drafted) I'd have to agree with him.

    • Absolutely … watching from Colorado, man oh man it makes my heart warm knowing how much our Panthers are loved and supported back home these days. This season was a massive step in the right direction after everything since Tepper took over.   But say all you want about Tepper, but let’s be honest , he has turned a corner and has truly embraced the Panthers history and culture more so recently , and we saw it on full display in Charlotte Saturday. I’m truly so damn proud of our Panthers …. Time to buy that DB #95 jersey… love this team and our fans so damn much. Been a fan since Day 1 when I was a kid in Charlotte and to see how far we’ve come and to have faith in where we’re going in the future truly brings a smile to my face.   In a world currently full of despair and pessimism, thank you to the 2025 Carolina Panthers for giving us hope once again. Time to let Dan Morgan cook… KEEP POUNDING 🖤💙🖤💙🖤💙
    • It's been one hell of a ride this season. It's been a long time since I've enjoyed football for an entire season. There are still a lot of things that frustrate me about this team, but they somehow made it work and put together something pretty impressive. I'm still worried about us being stuck in mediocrity, but hell, that's a lot better than where we've been.    Also, hats off to the fans! What an impressive showing last night. That was the most wild it's been since the 2015 NFC Championship. The place was absolutely rocking! The fans showed up! This is one of the things that has been missing for so long. Despite the loss, I had a blast last night.
