Keep An Eye Out For Ryan Van Bergen

Recommended Posts

Clubs shied away from DT Ryan Van Bergen mostly because of his “slender” 290-pound frame. Noted for his relentless hustle, Van Bergen played both DE and DT at Michigan. Coach Ron Rivera could command more stunts and blitz schemes this season. If so, DTs, like Van Bergen, who possess DE-like speed could be worked into the rotation.

Calling it now. I think this guy can make the team.

Locks: Charles Johnson, Frank Alexander, Greg Hardy, Antwan Applewhite

Fighting for a spot: Thomas Keiser and Ryan Van Bergen

I think Jyles Tucker and Eric Norwood are more likely to make it as rotational linebackers due to their versatility. I would assume that Rivera would want rather have Norwood and Tucker as third down defensive ends and possibly players that he uses in linebacker blitzes, so I wouldn't think either would make it as a defensive end.

With that said, if Van Bergen can beat out Keiser then he makes the squad. If not he will find a place on the practice squad and will compete for a spot next year.

I think Van Bergen would make it as a defensive end before he makes it as a defensive tackle. There is no more room on this team at defensive tackle.

We already have Ron Edwards, Terrell McClain, Frank Kearse, Andre Neblett, and Sione Fua as our five defensive tackle's. If Van Bergen is going to make it, he will make it as a defensive end taking Keiser's spot.

I know its the bleache report but its still worth a read.

Tried to quote, but for some reason I can't copy BR!?

He must have felt that his best chance at making a roster out of the teams that called was with the Panthers and I can't disagree with him. He has a great chance here in the Queen City.

i can see him making this team as a 3/5 tech for depth. and maybe he did impress enough for them to get rid of Shirley. Keiser and Applewhite could play that rush OLB in a 3-4 look since they both have the experience there. Tucker and Norwood i think have a long shot at making the team.

    • Bryce has been playing the best ball of his career the last three games IMO. He wasn't the reason we dropped the game in NOLA. Seattle's defense will be his toughest challenge yet this season
    • I'll be at the game Sunday and up until last year I had a perfect attendance record. Now however I have seen us lose to the Chiefs (last year) and the Bills (this year). So we can no longer rely solely on my ability to pound overpriced beers to propel us to a win.
    • I haven't been able to watch Seattle on a dedicated basis but the Seahawks are a much better team by the all accounts: eye test, record and DVOA. Defensively they are sick. Best DVOA in the league first in rushing and second in passing. Offensively their passing game has been on fire this year led by JSN I can easily see this being like the Buffalo game where things just get out of hand for us early, that being said this league really is week to week and Seattle does have the disadvantage of traveling cross country for an early game.  If and big if, the Panthers are able to effectively run the ball and limit the amount of time Seattle's offense has to generate explosive plays we have a path to winning this game.  Seattle fans won't be happy to hear this but bad Darnold is always lurking in the background. He is truly an enigma to root for bc he will have an incredible throw that only a few people can make but then will turn around and throw the most bone headed pick of all time.  I think ultimately we drop this one as ultimately it's human nature to be looking forward to that week 18 game. But man how special would it be to be leaving the stadium on Sunday with a win and a miracle dolphins upset
