Pretty simple question, do you think the team will vote Cam as a captain?

Yea you have guys like Smitty and Gross, one would have to lose it, but when you have a QB this good, they're normally a captain.

So does it happen this year or going into next?

Can't see it getting beyond that

Cam Newton & Jordan Gross will be the offensive captains, in my opinion. That's in no way a knock on Steve Smith. I don't think he's been a captain in the past because of his vocal leadership. In my opinion it was more of a sign as to how much his teammates respect & admire him. Anyone close to this team knows that Gross has been a cornerstone player & leader for many years now. Cam is a natural born leader & you could tell this was his team from day one. His teammates all gravitate towards him. Pair that with Ron Rivera's numerous offseason remarks praising Cam saying he is growing into the leadership role & it's fairly obvious. I think Cam & Rivera both wanted him to get through his rookie season then come in this offseason & really step up as the undoubted leader. In my opinion that's exactly what will happen between now & week 1.

Jon Beason is the undoubted leader of the defense. If I had to guess I'd say Gamble gets the other Captain patch. If not him either Johnson, Davis, or Anderson. Not too sure to be honest.

i could def see smith sort of donning the captain title to cam.

Smith has always been a badass....not much of a history of being a real leader. More of a loner that gets the C out of default

First off... Damn it took awhile to scroll down to somebody with at least 1000 votes... Lots of new people here.

Secondly, this is a joke right?

He'll get the C this year. My feeling is that both Gross and Smitty will argue about who will give their C up... Friendly argument of course. This is a no brainer! I'm a little disappointed in anyone that thinks otherwise quite frankly

I see guys like Gross and Smitty passing the Captain's reigns over to guys like Cam and Kalil. On defense I really see Gamble and Beason holding the Cs. IMO they should, anyways. ST's is a mess, the only incumbent we still have is Jansen lol I don't see a long snapper holding the STs C. Perhaps someone like Tolbert taking the STs C.

    • You are right. At the same time I don’t think people are watching games going come on Bryce put it on the ground or sail it OB or whatever. They just have trouble seeing him turning his 3 or four or five top games of 2025 into the weekly standard outing. Which you expect for the kind of money he will ask for (speaking for myself anyway).
    • In terms of comparing Pickett and Young's arm talent it's basically a push at best. Pickett is sitting at 6.2 yards per pass attempt for his career while Bryce sits at 6.0 Last season Bryce was 6.3 in yards per pass attempt. Only Justin Fields Spencer Rattler (both 6.2) Kyler Murray (6.0) 41 year old Joe Flacco (6.0) 44 year old Phillip Rivers (5.9) rookie Cam Ward (5.9) and Tyrod Taylor (5.8) had less pass yards per attempt than Bryce Young in his third season as a starter. Folks going around acting as if it is beyond the pale to say Pickett might have a better arm than Young are living in an alternate reality. You can choose to not believe your own eyes after 46 games but everyone else will acknowledge reality and move forward accordingly.
    • Wayne Gretzky yesterday said he is playing as good a series as he has ever seen from a defender. I thought that was pretty high praise.
