What NFL Execs Think of Cam: AFC Executive: "Cam Newton Already A Top 3 NFL QB"

You guys need to keep in mind that team execs operate with a different mindset than most. I'm sure the guy who ranked Cam 3rd was thinking "if I could steal a QB from another team for the next decade, Cam is the third one I'd grab."

It's not really about current projections with these guys, they're thinking about which QB they'd want for their team long-term In that case, I'm sure most teams would go Rodgers, Eli Manning/Roethlisberger/Stafford, Newton, etc.

What a difference a year makes. Who would have thought that Newton was even in the debate about a top 5 quarterback. heck who thought he would be in the top 10. I remember the discussion being that it would take 2 or 3 years for him to learn the playbook and start.

He is the first quarterback outside of Jake in 2004 and Steve in 1999 who were even in the conversation for being a top 10 QB in our short history. Having seen it from the beginning, I can honestly say that for the first time we have a bonafide franchise quarterback who gives a chance to be a playoff contender year in and year out. If we did all that we did between 2003-2008 with Jake, the sky is the limit with Cam.

Who knows what the season may bring, now is the time to talk crap and have big dreams. Right now we are undefeated.

may not be top 3 in way of production, but as far as talent goes...i don't know he might be there.

in a couple years he very well could be considered the most talented in the league.

he's already becoming the new standard or at least the goal of what you want in a QB.

our QB and this offense is going to be emulated by many in coming years.

Talent/potential Cam Newton IMO is #1.

In terms of being a QB now....hovering around 10

the thing that is amazing is that he's only played one year and that wasn't in the most ideal of situations....and he's a panthers QB!

i won't even complain about just being in the top 10.

Yup, scheme is irrelevant if you can't tackle Cam... just ask the Bucs on that 49 yard TD run. It's the same reason the traditional "sophomore slump" concept doesn't apply.

Love the idiot that responded "nobody does 30/20 pass/run td in college" Uh... you mean except for Cam.

I disagree on Cam "transforming the position" how many more like Cam will there be? He is truly a unique talent.

I wouldn't put him at 3rd just yet, but I could easily see him at # 1 within the next 5 years. Rodgers, Brees and Brady are great, but Cam will be able to do everything they can almost as well as they can (if not equal or better) and none of them are rushing for 20 TD's anytime soon.

No trust me I get that argument.

My argument though is solely the Quarter Back position. Brady has a hell of a team and a hell of a coaching staff. I think we have the right guys too but everyone was only in their first year and coming out of the lockout.

When you look at just Brady Vs. Newton, Cam's got the bigger arm and the mobility. Their leadership and accuracy are neck and neck, already IMO.

Cam really likes Brady and strives to be like him.

Brady is superior in decision making and defensive manipulation, not that Cam is bad in those categories, but Brady is on another level........for now

Cam is also the perfect answer to the way defenses are being retooled to defend the pass... defenses are getting smaller and faster to stop the passing game and we have a 6'6" 250 lb QB who is capable of rushing for 700 yards and 14 TD's.

It means you can spread defenses out with an effective passing game, forcing them to send in dime and quarter packages and then run a 6'6" 250 lb QB right down their throat.

I think transforming the position means athletes like LeBron or Peppers....the freaks....might start playing QB and could stick with it instead of changing positions or sports. Because usually a guy like Cam Newton doesn't play QB...he follows the path most guys with his abilities have done in the past

This. Because of Cam, kids in middle and high school that otherwise would be a WR, TE, DE or even just a basketball player...they will be given serious opportunities to grow into this new QB mold.

It's not hyberbole to say that Cam just may revolutionize the QB position.
