Is it time to give up on Jeff Otah?

Recommended Posts

I'd say that we give him a chance through OTA's and Preseason. Our decision should be made by the final Preseason game!

Think it should be determined at cut time. No one questions his on field performance but the fact he can't get to said field. Him sitting there wasting a roster spot should never be an option.

I'm not suggesting that he wastes a roster spot. What I'm saying is that he should be given a chance to prove himself through OTA's and Preseason if he's still healthy. If we decide not to keep him at the end of the last Preseason game, we'd still have untill Wk 6 to trade him or cut him.

Its not like he has anything to prove except getting on the field. If he does that he is golden if he does not he should be cut. Also he has no trade value so thats gone.

Huddlers will vehemently defend Otah, right up until he gets cut. Then, all of the sudden, people will act like they knew from the start that he was a wasted effort.

Same thing happened with dwayne jarret (though he was lazy, not injury prone), and will happen to Armanti as well. The only time this doesnt happen is when one guy completely sucks and another guy comes in and does much better at that position (Clausen to Cam)

It's not that it is the same people changing their minds, it is that posters will post in threads and reply to other posts they feel are relevant to their opinions.

I'm not sure why we make weekly posts about Otah, Carolina is in a perfect situation with the dude. If he doesn't perform, we are done with him at the end of the season. If he performs outstanding, we trade him because you never dude who only performs well in his contract year, and get some value for him in a trade or let another team buy him outright. And for whatever reason you don't believe that Bell can't improve, which I guess means that Cam can't improve either.

This being his last season, how would we trade him if he plays outstanding? You suggest resigning him and hoping another team would trade for him?

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
