2nd Tight End

My brilliance/ignorance has just informed me that Visanthe Shiancoe is still a free agent. He would be a very good #2 option, almost seamlessly replacing Shockey.

I know people for some reason are high on Barnidge, but let's face it, he has been in the league for 4 seasons with little to no production to account for. There are many players with less experience that us huddlers have written off. I'm not saying get rid of Barny, but I'd feel better with a more experienced and productive player at the #2 TE spot, considering its importance in this offense.

Yes Tolbert was brought in, but he isn't a 6'4 big body receiver either. He is getting up there in age, but since it doesn't look like Shock is coming back, he looks like a viable option.

Barnidge obviously hasn't done a whole lot. However the goal of any team is to build through the draft and he's obviously a guy they seem at this point to be satisfied with. They know what they want and they know him better than any of us. I will will trust in Chud to make that decision.

considering that 3 of barnidge's 4 years were under fox who was brilliant in the way he used TEs.

that was pretty much an ideal situation for any TE, right?

and then last year was IRed so he had every chance to show he could make it as a solid TE.

viable doesn't mean better, or does it? still trying to make sense of that question

I'm actually trying to make sense of your answer/question for my question. It's a simple question that I asked you. If they have not signed Shockey, why would they sign Shiancoe? They are similar, both vets. Shockey would be signed way before Shiancoe simply because he's played with our unit before and knows the system. I don't understand why you would even consider Shiancoe an option.

I haven't lost hope in Barny either, would love for him to pan out. Shiancoe has almost the same skill sets as Shockey, he can do the dirty work with blocking and make tough catches. I see Barny more of a guy needing space, but really, what does anybody know about Barny? We can say he didn't fit what Fox wants in a TE so that hampered his playing time, but if he really stood out in those 3 years, nobody thinks he would have gotten more opportunities? Basically, Shiancoe is a good option if we want Shockey, but he doesn't come back. I know we are developing young guys, but hey, we are making a serious run, you need vets as well.

    • Best birthday present ever!
    • People were discussing the new backup QB in comparison the the starter.  Neither has anything close to a cannon.  Video was posted of them throwing.  If people can’t be free to express their opinions without being put on a list of posters who have ruined this place we have a bad situation here. People trying to silence  criticism of the QB.    Maybe actually post about the other players instead of about the other posters. That is where it went off the rails.
    • That's true and we're definitely going to hear more about it as summer progresses. But at the end of the day all of the progress we've made on the roster as a whole will only matter if our passing offense can emerge from the basement of the NFL. In 2023 it was 32 out of 32 in 2024 it was 30th out of 32 and last year it was 26th out of 32. And early in the season we relied heavily on a career year from Rico Dowdle who is no longer on the roster. This is only reinforced by the fact that we (depending on how one views it) effectively took playcalling out of Dave Canales hands and brought in another offensive mind. The elephant in the room isn't going anywhere no matter how much we may not like it.
