I'm actually trying to make sense of your answer/question for my question. It's a simple question that I asked you. If they have not signed Shockey, why would they sign Shiancoe? They are similar, both vets. Shockey would be signed way before Shiancoe simply because he's played with our unit before and knows the system. I don't understand why you would even consider Shiancoe an option.

Could be a money issue.Shockey was asking a pretty penny

considering that 3 of barnidge's 4 years were under fox who was brilliant in the way he used TEs.

that was pretty much an ideal situation for any TE, right?

and then last year was IRed so he had every chance to show he could make it as a solid TE.

This... Barnidge finally found himself in a situation last year where he was more than a 6th offensive lineman and he got hurt.

On the few occasions that he was asked to actually play TE he flashed some pretty good stuff, so I want to see what he can do this in TE-friendly offense before I run out and sign FA's.

god I can't wait until Barnidge proves everyone wrong. He is a heck of a player and so many aren't even smart enough to realize that.

Dude, this doesn't have anything to do with being smart enough to realize anything. All we have to go by is scant playing time, so I don't know what to think about Barnidge, good or bad---right or "wrong". This is not about Barnidge proving people wrong, at its basest level, it's about Barnidge proving his worth.

This ain't Missouri, but Barney has to "show me" to make me a believer, one way or another.

that's a straw man, just because Fox didn't use TEs doesn't mean he never had any problem replacing TEs with new ones. By his 2nd season King replaced Mangum, by his 2nd season Rosario replaced King(passing wise) and then Barnidge never did much.

I hope Barnidge does well but it's kind of weird how there is always one player that becomes so mysteriously polarizing.

i would double check that time line.

    • Because playoff hockey and regular season hockey aren’t the same thing.  It’s a combination of the game intensity being dialed up with loose officiating.
    • The last 8 weeks, Nix had 2,022 yards, 21 TDs, 6 INTs on 70% completions While Bryce's last 8 games he had 1,709 yards, 12 TDs (albeit adding 5 more rushing), 3 INTs on 61% completions. I'm not going to pretend I watched those Broncos games to know exactly how Nix actually looked, but in retrospect, his statistics were better.  Hell, in just his final 8 games, Nix had only 5 less TD passes than Bryce has in his 30 game (28 starts) career. And you said he had better WRs than Bryce did, but I'm not even sure that's even true either. Sutton and Thielen might be completely different types of WRs, but I'd say they are pretty equal on effectiveness if not even a slight edge to Thielen (63.6 YPG for Sutton to 61.5 for Thielen).  Then XL and Coker vs Marvin Mims and Devaughn Vale, again, at worst a push, if not lean in our favor there too. Why is it so hard for some Panthers fans to just objectively look at our team/Bryce and be honest with themselves. ? He was significantly improved the final two months of the season from his first season and a half.  But he was still a below average QB during that time, even if he had a few good throws and clutch moments.
