Robert Griffin 3rd: That's not enough rings

Recommended Posts

I think there’s a chance that the Redskins and their fans just might take a liking to this RG3 kid.

Let’s leave his on-field skills aside for the moment. We really won’t see that at all until the Redskins take the field against the Saints** in September and we won’t see it fully developed for another few years.

But we can see now what could make him one of the most popular athletes ever in Washington.

He gets it.

We have seen that in how he has dealt with fans and with the media. Griffin’s visit to the Pro Football Hall of Fame provided some more evidence that he is firmly grounded and respects the right things.

Jeff Darlington of NFL.com followed RG3 as he went through the hallowed halls and related a few of warm and fuzzy moments.

The first was when he stopped to look at a mannequin in an old Redskins uniform. When he realized whose uniform it was, he was appropriately awed.

“Sammy Baugh,” he said in a hushed tone.

Baugh came from Texas with much fanfare to be the team’s first quarterback after they moved from Boston. Griffin is from Texas and came here with 21st-century hype to be the team’s next quarterback.

Baugh led the Redskins to an NFL title as a rookie and is the best player in the team’s history. Griffin has yet to step on the field but he appreciates what Baugh, and other players from that era, did for the game today.

"To know what those guys did back then and had to go through to get to where we are (standing) right now, it's extremely important for us to grasp so that we can know what our identity is," Griffin told Darlington later.

Later on, Griffin looked at an exhibit of all of the Super Bowl rings awarded. A Hall of Fame employee pointed out the there were three rings there for the Redskins.

“That’s not enough rings,” said Griffin. “We’ve got to get more.”

Redskins Nation is in unanimous agreement with RG3 there and there is a growing belief that he just might be the guy to lead to way to getting a few more Lombardi’s.

Mod's can delete if needed, just realized it was posted in Football Central.

You know what aggravates me? The fact that this ass hole doesn't get called cocky, a bad teammate or nothing. But, this is one of the cockiest things I've seen a rookie ever say.

I disagree.

I am CERTAINLY not a Redskins fan and I am not buying the RG3 hype unless he proves himself in the NFL.

Having said that, I fail to see where his was being arrogant or cocky. He used the words "we" and gives off the sense of teamwork and dedication to the team that was willing to give him a chance. What is wrong with what he said? At least he did not refer to himself in the third person or say that he was going to carry the rest of the team on his shoulders. I am no fan of RG3, but I don't see anything wrong with what he said.

Text can be interpreted in various ways. If you hear him say it, you can find any pitch and tone, then determine his actual intention when saying "That's not enough rings."

Look at Cam and his interview, the one where he says he won't rest until he has that Lombardi trophy in his hands. Remember that? He didn't have a hint of cockiness when he said that. There was a hint of confidence though. Then his trademark smile.

IT all depends on how he said it (RG3). I wouldn't take this too seriously either way. He has to win the fan base now since he can't on the field at the current moment.

anyway talk is easy and cheap this time of the year

let's see how much of a rah rah guy you are down 28 in the fourth after throwing three interceptions and getting knocked down all day. it's a lesson cam had to learn too.

Yeah, my bad. I don't go in Football Central at all. But, I think Luck will have a better season and more wins then RG3. This Skins fan I know said they'll have 8 wins this year. I was like UHHHHHHHHH?

    • Yeah, I could jump right into the unbelievable Bryce debate now that some people are trying to flip the script because Bryce Young has, at most, a handful of decent games as a pro, but that's going to work itself out. Suffice it to say that I've seen better QBs (with an s) in a Panthers uniform, and I've certainly seen better QBs be drafted while we're playing around with Bryce, one of them who beat the crap out of us already this season... Let's forget about Bryce (and his markedly underwhelming play since he's been here); I think that most sane fans will agree that drafting him was an error, but it happens. Sure, it doesn't happen to the tune of King's ransom---including your main receiver---but it happens. You bet, you lose. Speaking of receivers...and betting and losing... Oh, man, we drafted Xavier Legette. Yes, just like with Bryce, I've entered "the dark side." Some Huddlers were telling us from the beginning, and they were right. But, I'm not apologizing for waiting to see what a guy's got before making my decision on him. X was a one-year wonder at South Carolina who parlayed some really nice production that season, a great personality and thick country accent, into becoming a first round pick (but only in Carolina). For Dan Morgan and company, He was a big swing that has turned into a big whiff (and I can still feel the ill breeze from that one). Sh¡t happens, right? Well, not so fast. Ladd McConkey was the decidedly more polished receiver who was literally ready to hit the ground running as soon as stepping onto the field as a pro. Ladd was never the biggest guy (though not the smallest), but he was the guy that could run routes, always seemed to get open---no question---and had the same speed as X, but with legit quickness and nuanced shake and bake. But Dan chose the project. He chose the guy where the game speed looks more like a tractor trailer than a 5.0 mustang. Look, I've supported X (just like Bryce) many many a day, but no more. Now I'm not saying that I won't root for the guy. Just like with Bryce, he seems like a great kid. But as far as giving excuses for the kid, and, perhaps more importantly, waiting for some miraculous breakout, I'm done with that. I've seen enough. You don't draft a project for a project. And yes, Bryce had proven to be a project after his first season. In my mind, drafting a supposedly number one receiver that needs lots of development for a starting quarterback that needs immediate help to try and further his development is not going to lead to good things. Pick the surest guy. Or at least pick the one who appears to be the surest guy, because picking can be tricky... especially when you're too busy tricking yourself.
    • Winning ain't gonna make my eyes lie to me. Context matters, and it will always matter in the game of football.
    • That TD pass to Legette against Miami. Elite. The play where Bryce rolls right to buy time until Tet can reverse field.  Bryce pumps as multiple defenders close in.  He barely gets it away before he takes a big time hit.  Beautiful off platform throw and great catch by Tet.   The second TD to Tet against Dallas where Bryce dips and turns his shoulder in to evade the pass rusher.  Resets and finds Tet in the end zone. Dude embodies the Keep Pounding mantra.
