How would YPA more closely correlate to wins over YPG? Airing it out down the field gets you more wins than short west coast type routes? Funny Alex Smith of all people would say that, but Jimmy Clausen approves of this message.

Wait, what? YPA is definitely a lot more telling than YPG.

If a guy is throwing for 400+ in a game with a YPA of 6.4, it tells you that the guy is just throwing the ball a lot and isn't very efficient when he does.

I understand the point that Alex Smith is trying to make but I dont think he does...

His basic premise is that yards/game is not an end all statistic and in the end it is the wins that matter. I think several people on this board and even Cam himself have said this over and over again. Smith almost gets there but each time he talkes about it he says something else that is completely assinine.

Hail, Hail Last years gone never to be lived again. Young Mr. Smith had his little place in history by going to the play-offs.

Now lets see Young Mr. Newton 1st of all put a football in the HOF with his name on it for most toutchdowns ever ran for by a QB.

Then he threw for more toutchdowns than any rookie other Rookie ever and didn't replace Mr. Smith there either.

Then won The Rookie of the Year award which I don't beleive Young Mr. Smith was even considered for.

If this was a job resume who would you give an opportunity with your team??

Gooo Panthers!!!!!!

I don't see how one twenty yard pass relates to winning more than two completed ten yard passes. Perhaps I'm just looking at it too superficially, and there is a connection, but I don't get it.
