What I get from this is that Cam did have some struggles. He overthrows his receivers more than any other QB and has more bad throws than any other QB. He threw the ball A LOT early and late in games. Hopefully this year we won't be in a shoot out every week and we can get his attempts down. That will help. You would hope that a full offseason would help him get some of the kinks out as well. I like his passing style. Accuracy will improve (but clearly it needs to improve a lot).

Do "bad throws" mean bad decision making? That's what I assume. Coaching and offseason training could really help Cam fully grasp this offense. I think he's smarter than he gets credit for in the media. A lot of his INTs were a result of poor decisions. He can correct this as long as his focus is there.

So what does the data tell us

It tells you that stats dont mean poo since they dont even hint at what the scenerios were for each and every one of those throws. It doesnt hint at receivers running bad routes, it doesnt cover the last quarter where a QB would be trying to catch up to a 3 td lead. It doesnt show how bad or good the protection was.

It doesnt show a lot, thats what the data tells us. . . nothing.

he's a gun-slinger rookie who was given a lot of freedom to grow and make mistakes and who has been working his butt off non-stop since before he got drafted. he's playing at a much higher level than many of us who believed in him and wanted him as the panthers QB thought possible...at least he's doing it earlier. since the season ended he's been working non-stop to improve every aspect of his game.

those stats? meh....they basically say he's an NFL QB.

Peyton Manning made countless horrible throws his rookie season and went 3-13, but everyone knew that he was going to be great. Being a rookie quarterback isn't about being perfect - it's about showcasing what you CAN do then allowing coaching, natural progression and the talent around you to grow to your strengths and weaknesses.

People make way too big a deal out of Cam's turnovers, and yes they could be lower but asking him to significantly lower that number is not easy. This whole throw for 4k yards and under 10 picks is a new thing, and even now only Brady and Rodgers really do that. Anyone expecting Cam to be either of those 2 guys by his second year in the league is just nit picking (although Cam has surprised everyone, every freaking year of his career).

    • I think Morgan has had the right general idea. The problem has been in execution.    Bryce year 1, there were myriad issues from roster talent to coaching and scheme, but the offensive line was particularly glaring. So they went out and  fixed the o-line by signing Hunt and Lewis.  That fix actually seems to have been at least moderately successful.    Last year, pass rush was a major issue. So they invested along the defensive line and at edge. The problem is, they either expended too many resources over correcting—partially because in free agency, when you’re a shitty franchise, you have to overpay to get talent in the door—or they didn’t make the right picks. It’s probably too early to pass judgment on the free agent class or draft picks as it’s only been one game. So we’ve got a small sample size and rookie edges may take time to develop. But if game 1 is any indication, they didn’t solve the problem.
    • This is getting out of hand again. I swear some of yall just look for reasons to call out the QB, in an extremely thinly vieled "OFFENSIVE CAP HIT" statement.  All of that is offensive line. It was an overreaction to how horrible the guards were in 2023, where guys were starting multiple games that will never take a snap in the NFL again. Speaking of 2023... where did the offensive cap rank then? Where are those WRs playing in the league now? How much are the WRs, TEs and RBs making compared to the rest of the NFL? We have two, 1st round WRs on the roster. And they are the only WRs on the roster picked before the 4th round. One shouldn't have been a first rounder, he's only in his second season, AND he was literally outplayed by an UDFA rookie WR last year - that is currently on IR. The other WR picked before the 4th round has only played one game as a pro.  QB play needs to improve. Absolutely no friggin doubt about that. But, come on. That dude has not been dealt a fair hand, no matter how many ways you try to spin it. Let's hope he figures out how to make chicken salad out of the chicken poo this team has served him his entire time here. Hoping that this org finds another Cam Newton is not really a realistic expectation.
    • Put Young on any team and they would still have to run a limited scheme for him. Put any talent around him and they still have to carry him.  IDGAF if we trade him inside the NFCS next year. That is how little I fear ever playing him.
